Sunday's Scripture:
Psalm 77:11-15
Psalm 77:11 I will remember Yah’s deeds;
for I will remember your wonders of old.
12 I will also meditate on all your work,
    and consider your doings.
13 Your way, God, is in the sanctuary.
What god is great like God?
14 You are the God who does wonders.
You have made your strength known among the peoples.
15 You have redeemed your people with your arm,
the sons of Jacob and Joseph.
Selah.

In holiness — God is holy and just, and true in all his works.

Annual Conference
Session 2014

The Annual Conference meeting of our regional church met last week in Redlands--it was good to be gathered together as the diverse, beautiful community that we share in. Pastor Molly had a number of leadership roles, as Chair of the Order of Elders, as Emcee for the Retirement Dinner and more. She's happy to share news that she's been appointed to serve our congregation for another year!
She was also elected to be a delegate to the Jurisdictional Conference of the UMC in 2016, and as the first alternate delegate to our General Conference that same year.
The sessions are over, but information about what happened is still online.
You can see our own Wendy Stanfill share in an Imagine No Malaria presentation via the archived livestream of Wednesday afternoon's Plenary. (The presentation begins at about 1:05:30.)

Our 2014 Vacation Bible School: Workshop of Wonders
Wonderful
It has certainly been a busy week at church--as we host Vacation Bible School for our church families and community. The whole campus has been buzzing with energy.
And all the usual things continue, too--concerns and care for our church family, Shared Bread, worship planning, and more.
I want to share my deep gratitude to everyone who's helped make VBS - and all our ministries - happen. Deep thanks to our staff--Katherine and Caroline, along with our interns Mele and Luke, who have organized and led so well--plus, of course, Ernie (who always seems to fill in whatever gap opens up) and Arnie (who helped make messes disappear). And more thanks to our volunteers: to the Shared Bread folks, and the VBS crew leaders and station leaders and more. To those of you who took time off work, or used your free time, or juggled your family calendars to make drop-off and pick-up times work. To those who've held it all in prayer. Your work has made amazing things happen. You are wonderful.
grace and peace,
Pastor Molly
We continue our summer worship schedule this Sunday, with services at 8:30 and 10:30. I hope to see you there!

Pancakes! Sunday, June 29
Join your church family - and some special guests - for a Pancake Breakfast to benefit Imagine No Malaria. We'll be serving breakfast between our morning worship services, starting at 9:15 a.m.
On the 29th, we'll also be celebrating our Vacation Bible School - Workshop of Wonders - during our worship services, and we hope some of our new friends from the week will join us. The breakfast is in place of our usual end-of-the-month Potluck lunch, and we're excited that with our summer schedule, folks from both worship services can enjoy the food and fellowship together.
We've specially invited our new church members from 2014, so it's also a great chance to get to know them more. Our new members include:
Dorothea Cox, Sallie Parker, Shannon Ponce, Jeff Ponce, Jonathan Tuuholoaki, Ofa Tuuholoaki, Eunice Tuuholoaki, Matthew Tuuholoaki, Priscilla Tuuholoaki and Jody Wilkinson
We will accept Free Will Donations for the breakfast. All proceeds benefit Imagine No Malaria, an initiative of the United Methodist Church to end malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa (and a $10 donation can help save a life).
Thanks to folks from our Mission Committee and Membership Committee for organizing the event!

Aloha, Caroline!
On Sunday, July 13, we are planning a lunchtime celebration to
honor and thank Caroline for her 9 years as Director of Youth Ministry here.
Please save the date on your calendar.
Additionally, we are gathering favorite pictures and movie clips of Caroline--if you have a favorite or two to share, please email them to Pastor Molly! (And help us spread that word to others who know and treasure her.)

A Farewell Celebration for Linda and Dr. Jeanette
On Sunday, July 27, we will have a lunchtime party honoring Linda Waterman at her retirement, and honoring Dr. Jeanette Yaryan as she moves on to next adventures.
Besides sharing lunch together, we're planning some good, musical fun--including an opportunity for anyone to "join the choir" as we sing through a couple favorite anthems.

Summer Worship Schedule
Starting June 15, we will have TWO worship services through the summer: a casual worship service
in Epworth Lounge at 8:30, and a festive combined community worship service in the sanctuary at 10:30.
Join us for these exciting upcoming Sundays:
June 29 - Our worship will share some of the wonder of Vacation Bible School, and graduating Senior Kevin Hwang will share a testimony in both services.
July 6 - Our holiday weekend worship shares a favorite parable of Jesus; we will celebrate the baptism of Karalyn (Trey and Krys) Kyle at 10:30.
July 13 - We begin a series of sermons with themes drawn from "The Jungle Book" - starting off with a reminder that "All the World is God's Creation." After worship, we will celebrate Caroline's ministry as we wish her "Aloha."
July 20 - Rev. Nicole Reilley will be back to preaching on the advice to "Be Careful Who You Trust." (Pastor Molly will be with the youth on an SSP trip.)
July 27 - Pastor Molly will preach, "Don't worry about 'Stuff'" and we will celebrate the worship gifts of Linda and Dr. Jeanette with extra-special music.

Worship Helpers Needed:  Liturgists and communion servers for 8:30 & 10:30 worship throughout the summer. If you are available to help out, please email the office.  Junior and Senior High youth are encouraged to help, too!  We also need videographers in the balcony and sound/computer operators downstairs.

The Lay Looker - Bob Peterson
"The recent celebration of confirmands was not just a highlight,
Lay Lookerit was a very moving experience for many of us. I was one of twenty some mentors and treasure the memories of meeting Kyle Aldover and his family, people I hadn't met previously. Many benefits of this program are unknown to all of us, but they will remain in our memories for many years. Thanks to those who planned and executed all this so well.
Now we will hear about the Vacation Bible School and its successes. I plan to attend this pancake breakfast this Sunday. Hope to see you there.
I wanted to have my Great Granddaughter attend the Drama Camp, but, alas, it was not to be due to a scheduling problem, but it sure sounds great. We all get an opportunity to see ..."

I wanted to have my Great Granddaughter attend the Drama Camp, but, alas, it was not to be due to a scheduling problem, but it sure sounds great. We all get an opportunity to see the result the Sunday following the camp, so plan on it.
It was outstanding to hear Caroline Dawes take on the preaching job last Sunday. She has been one of the persons who has made a major impression here at Redondo Beach First United Methodist Church these past nine or so years. So, as we plan her farewell, we wish her well and know that she will always be in  our hearts and we appreciate her fine work with the youth at our church.
As a matter of fact, as we lose other staff such as Linda and Jeanette, we can hope and pray for new staff which will lead us to new heights in work with our young people and all of us.
Let us include in our prayers the future leaders of our church which may come from within or outside, but always with God's help, working to make the world and our church a better place.
