Blue Springs, Missouri, United States - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs eNote with Pastor Penny Ellwood for Friday, 12 September 2014
A quick link to our upcoming events/activites below:
Hello Resurrection Blue Springs,

Fall appears to have taken a giant leap forward this weekend. You'll have to drag out your jackets when you head down for the Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest this weekend, but otherwise it appears to be a clear weekend for our BBQ booth downtown.  The "Spice" team made quick work seasoning all the pork butts on Wednesday and the booth was set up last night (fellowship Hall still smells like mustard and spice).  "Big Dawg" Gary and the dawg pound spent the night smoking the first round of pork and when I checked in this morning the crew was all set to start selling BBQ sundaes at noon.

Fall Fun Fest is our yearly opportunity to put our face out into the public and invite our friends to be a part of our awesome community.  People notice the fun we're having as we work together and we have a chance to invite those we meet to join us for a Sunday worship, a class or a chance to serve.  The proceeds from this year's booth will be used to make improvements in the area of children's ministry.  All good things! Before the weekend is over, we'll have nearly one hundred from our congregation helping out so, it's also a great chance for us to get better acquainted with each other (I've included the sign up list below as a reminder of your shift times).  Plan to come on down to try a BBQ sundae, join the crew working in the booth or just say "hi."

You won't want to miss worship this Sunday either.  We're kicking off a new sermon series called The Call.  We'll be taking a look at the Apostle Paul's life, mission and ministry.  It will be a great chance to learn about and be inspired by someone who listened and responded to God's call in powerful ways that continue to have global impact.  This series will actually take you to the places where Paul journeyed so that you can gain a better vision for what was happening during Paul's life that prompted his words.  Here is the video promo you might want to forward on to a friend.  Bring your Bibles with you to worship and this weekend we'll give out a map and outline of Paul's life to aid in your study and reading of his letters.  I hope you'll join us as we launch this new and powerful sermon series.

Don't forget to put the Family Camp Out on your calendar for next Friday evening and the Faithwork events on Saturday; the Sacred Steps 5K Walk/Run and the Ride for Hunger.  Friday night we're going to pitch our tents in the backyard and have a whole evening of fun.  A picnic dinner, movie on the back wall of the church, smores and stories around the campfire.  If you don't want to stay for the whole night, come on up and take part in the dinner and movie.  Watch our facebook page for updates on the overnight.  We'll have the meal and movie regardless of the weather but watch our facebook for updates if the weather causes problems for the overnight.  Then Saturday we'll have folks heading to Leawood for the Sacred Steps 5K Walk/Run and the Ride for Hunger.

One last thing, we've had a great initial response to our survey but we'd love to have more input from the rest of you.  Please take a few moments to complete the survey if you haven't done so already.  The link is included below, along with all the other new classes we'll be offering soon.

Survey Says... As we make our plans for the next five-ten years, we'd like to have your input on what's working well and where we need to focus our attention going forward.  We're asking you to participate in a general but all encompassing survey to help us clarify next steps.  Our campus advisory team and staff have worked together to create a 32 question survey for our members and friends to fill out.   The questions are general but all encompassing and we plan to share the results when we've finished.  The survey will take you 10 minutes or less to complete.  Click on this link to complete the survey.  We'd love to have every adult and youth in your household complete it!   We appreciate your valuable input!!

Single Adults Bible Study 2nd and 4th Wednesday’s of the month from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.  Regardless of how long you’ve been single or how you came to be single, this group will help you understand how God can work in your life now.

Fall Fun Fest Underway!  We'll be running our BBQ Sundae booth on Main Street from Friday -Sunday for Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest.   The Fest runs from 12 pm - 10 pm, Friday,  Saturday from 10 am - 10 pm, andSunday from 10 am - 6 pm.  We have 2 - 2 1/2 hour volunteer shifts for serving in the booth available throughout the Fest.  We could still use some extra hands, especially on Sunday.  The volunteer shift list is below.  Any help with the tear down is especially appreciated as the Dawg Pound will be running on empty about that time.  It usually starts about 5:30 pm on Sunday. Free t-shirts with "Sundays Just Got Better" on the back are available at the booth for anyone serving before or during the event. We'd love to see you out in-force wearing your shirts throughout the weekend!

Family Camp Out, September 19th -On Friday, September 19th we're going to have a family camp out on the back lawn of the church.  Come set up your tents, sleeping bags and lawn chairs out back.  At 7 pmwe'll share a meal together (possibly some leftover BBQ, yummm!).  We'll have smores in the fire pit, watch a movie on the side of the church and maybe even tell some ghost stories around the fire.  You're all invited.  If you'd prefer not to do the overnight, come on up and stay as long as you'd like.  Invite your friends to join us!
