Not waiting to advance - by Greg Crofford
nullNazarenes from South Sudan have endured many hardships, including civil war, yet remain hungry for training as they pursue the call to pastoral ministry.
From 21-27 August, ten students gathered daily at the district center in Gambella, Ethiopia, for Church History II offered through the Creative Leadership Institute (CLI). Many came from the nearby refugee camps. Students were inspired as we sang , prayed, and studied giants of Christian faith like Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Wesley, Hudson Taylor, Amy Carmichael and João Dias. In their stories, we learned how God gives leaders in every age grace to overcome what can seem to be insurmountable obstacles.
When asked how the CLI program has impacted him, Pastor David Dak Kier replied: "CLI is very important because it helps me get more knowledge about theology and to
DS Andrew Tut Deng
know the essential things in the Bible."
East Sudan District Superintendent Andrew Tut Deng has a ready smile and gentle spirit. He remarked:"Without CLI, I wouldn't be sure of the details of our holiness message. The courses I've received have also helped me be a more effective administrator in the church."
CLI students are not waiting for the end of the war to advance the Lord's kingdom. Area Coordinator John Yual reports that displaced pastors have started several Nazarene congregations in the refugee camps.

Running with Vision - by Rev Gershom Kwerakwera
The Malawi Lower Shire District had a Youth Camp meeting from July 24-27 at Shuva church near the Mozambique border. The Theme of this camp was YOUTH RUNNING WITH VISION
(Hosea 4:6). We had 163 youth from 31 of our 53 churches.

The topics that were taught during this camp were:
1) Choosing a Life Partner - led by me
2) NYI-Charter - led by Brother Jesenayo Gayo, who will continue as the NYI President
3) Prayer - led by Brother Akidu Gama,
4) Bible Quiz - led by Rev Emanuel Bell,
5) Calling to Pastoral Ministry -led by Rev Foster Kalemba,
6) Leadership - also led by me as the district superintendent
During this Camp meeting 41 youth gave their lives to Jesus. Eighteen-year-old Davide Mijoya testifies that he has benefited by attending this camp meeting since his life has completely changed. He is member from Nyamijete church who smoked and was troublesome at home, in school and to his whole village. But he met Jesus Christ during this camp through prayers which the men of God offered and he promised to serve him and live a holy life always.
The Youth also visited Rulwe Hospital where they went to pray with the sick people and also were involved in door-to-door evangelism as part of a practical course.
We thank God that although we conducted this camp at the place where there were no means of transportation apart from walking the 16 kms to the venue, no safe water and other important things that a person needs during such meetings, God protected us. No one suffered and we arrived home safely! God Bless You!

Lake Victoria District celebrates 20 graduates - by Greg Crofford
Bwana Asifiwe! Praise the Lord! These words rang out on Saturday, August 30 as Kenya's Lake Victoria District held a graduation ceremony for twenty of its pastors. Following rousing music lead by the praise team and visiting choirs, Nazaren e Bible College of East Africa (NBCEA) Principal Rev Elijah King'ori congratulated the students on their perseverance. Eight students were awarded the Diploma in Theology and twelve received the Certificate in Christian Ministry. King'ori also reminded youth in attendance to consider studying at NBCEA to fulfill God's calling upon their lives, whether ultimately they serve as ordained or lay ministers in the church.
As the commencement speaker, I challenged the graduates to excellence in pastoral ministry. Drawing on 1 Peter 5:2-4, I encouraged them with five exhortations related to the flock: care, watch over, serve, lead, and receive from the Chief Shepherd the reward for faithfulness.
Patrick Watta, class valedictorian, reflected on the meaning of the event: "Today's celebration has motiva

me, that there's a lot of work to do, to look for lost souls and to bring them to Jesus."
Rev Peter Okinyo, district superintendent, was inspired by the ceremony, especially since some of the older students who had lingered in the program had wondered if they would ever make it. Okinyo observed: "This graduation was an achievement. It has changed the attitude of students, because they were losing hope. It has encouraged the learners to pursue their learning."
Dr Kennedy Hongo, Chief of Staff and personal secretary to the local county governor, offered a stirring challenge to all present to be "salt and light" in the community. "Christians with integrity living out their faith in the God of the Bible are the hope for Africa," he insisted.

A Present for the King - by Petros Mavuso
Southern Africa Nazarene University Vice Chancellor Dr Winnie Nhlengethwa presented His Majesty King Mswati III of the Kingdom of Swaziland with an SANU branded portrait  during the official opening of the Swaziland International Trade Fair 2014
His Majesty graced the event with his guest of honor, King Goodwill Zwelithini Zulu of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. They both delivered speeches which encouraged the business community and the nation to work harder to improve the Swaziland economy. After the speeches, the King then proceeded to tour individual stalls in all the 17 different pavilions at Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Center. The Chief Executive Officers of different companies had the opportunity to present what their organizations do and in a nutshell outline their objectives and goals.
Dr Nhlengethwa started by explaining to His Majesty the King what SANU has achieved for the nation in terms of bringing programs much needed by the economy. The king was very impressed with he
r presentation which was spiced with humor and he  was seen laughing while at the SANU stall.
After the dignitaries finished touring the stalls, all CEOs exhibiting were then invited to meet the King at the Prime Minister's stall in the main pavilion and have the the chance to present gifts to their Majesties. Dr. Nhlengethwa presented the gift when exhibitors were invited.
Also attending the event were the Board of Governors and Management, staff and students of the university.
