Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Wednesday, 24 September 2014 "Don't be afraid"

Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Wednesday, 24 September 2014 "Don't be afraid"
Immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, "Take courage!  It is I.
Don't be afraid."  Then he climbed into the boat with them, and
the wind died down." (Mark 6:50, 51)
The disciples were out on the lake; Jesus had stayed behind on the shore, but when evening came, Jesus saw the disciples "straining at the oars, because the wind was against them."  So, he walked on the water toward them, which, interestingly enough frightened them, and that's the context for the verses above.
I've been straining at the oars of late, still wrestling with these music matters at our church (and many, many thanks for your supportive emails from yesterday's DSE).  And so these verses speak powerfully to me.  I hear Jesus say, "Take courage!  It is I.  Don't be afraid."  And then, even more wonderful news:  Jesus climbs into the boat with me/us!  That's so awesome.
Well, that's my story right now; what about you?  Straining at the oars?  The wind against you, or is it right now filling your sails - I hope it is; but if it isn't, look to your right or left; you'll likely see Jesus walking on the waters, getting ready to climb aboard.
These begin soon:  Alpha: 9/30; FPU: 9/23.
