Dear Friends,
It began for me in fifth grade Sunday School class - my love affair with the Bible.  Our teacher, Mrs. Kay Rickets instituted contests for which there were prizes for memorizing Scripture passages, Lord's Prayer, Apostles' Creed, etc.  And so it began, on to seminary, study in Germany, Princeton, ministry, DSE's and more, a quest to understand this book that kept bringing me life, and wisdom and hope, that knew me more than I knew it, that pressed me to persevere.  I love this book!
I say "fifth" grade, because at my home church we didn't have a 3rd Grade Bible Presentation, as we do here at Trinity and at United Methodist Churches across the world.  This coming Sunday, 9/14 is when we celebrate this huge event, and inaugurate a life long journey of discovery of the greatest truths ever given to humankind. Make no mistake; that's exactly what this is all about.
Parents, we want you to do something that will be very special to your child:  look up and write down 1 or 2 of your own favorite scripture passages, and bring them with you on Sunday.  Our amazing Children's Ministry team will provide "sticky notes" for you to write them on (e.g. Dad, Jeremiah 29:11, or Mom, Isaiah 40:31, or Grandma, John 3:16, etc.) and place at the Scripture site in your child's new Bible.  This simple act will help children know that the Bible is important to people who are important to them.  And, do you know what the most important factor will be in helping them develop a pattern of reading their Bible is - seeing you read it regularly and often!
Trinity Family, will you please make a special effort to bring one of your Bibles to Church on this upcoming Sunday.  It will be a great demonstration to our children of just how important this Book is to their church family.  And if you haven't identified 1 or 2 of your favorite Bible verses, why don't you take some time right now to do that; make a note, place it in your wallet or purse and carry them with you always.
I'll see you Sunday - at the place where the Bible is central to who we are and are becoming.
Love and Prayers, Dan

Associate Pastors
A Word from Rev. Esther:  Though I can't recollect a time in my life where I haven't considered myself a Christian, there was a period of years where I could not read the Bible because it was too painful.  I have experienced disequilibrium in my faith journey, especially as pertains my understanding of Scripture. For this reason I'm particularly looking forward to our time of 'Making Sense of the Bible' that will begin at the 6:35 service starting this Wednesday, concurrently with the church-wide study.  We'll begin by exploring 'How Is the Bible True?'. I hope you join us at one of the two discussions of this book that will be held at Trinity.  I'm praying for you - Trinity, her people, and the surrounding community.
A Word from Rev. Aaron Rousseau:  Some of you asked me to post the five ways faith communities can build deeper, more lasting connections with young adults from Sunday's sermon (which come from this article by David Kinnaman):
1. Make room for meaningful relationships.
2. Teach cultural discernment.
3. Make reverse mentoring a priority.
4. Embrace the potency of vocational-discipleship.
5. Facilitate connection with Jesus.
On another note, if you have been following my blog as part of Bishop Carter's Luke/Acts reading plan for 2014, I will be catching it up with a new entry later today. Have a blessed week everyone!
