"God in me and me in God"

DAVE AND LISA ROCK, God bless them, are going to tackle this one-week-wonder of a session. We'll talk about what this means and how it should affect the way we live.

John 14:

The Spirit of Truth

15-17 “If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can’t take him in because it doesn’t have eyes to see him, doesn’t know what to look for. But you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you!

18-20 “I will not leave you orphaned. I’m coming back. In just a little while the world will no longer see me, but you’re going to see me because I am alive and you’re about to come alive. At that moment you will know absolutely that I’m in my Father, and you’re in me, and I’m in you.

21 “The person who knows my commandments and keeps them, that’s who loves me. And the person who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and make myself plain to him.”

Verse 15

[15] If ye love me, keep my commandments.

If ye love me, keep my commandments — Immediately after faith he exhorts to love and good works.

Verse 16

[16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

And I will ask the Father — The 21st verse, John 14:21, shows the connection between this and the preceding verses.

And he will give you another Comforter — The Greek word signifies also an advocate, instructer, or encourager.

Another — For Christ himself was one.

To remain with you for ever — With you, and your followers in faith, to the end of the world.

Verse 17

[17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

The Spirit of truth — Who has, reveals, testifies, and defends the truth as it is in Jesus.

Whom the world — All who do not love or fear God, cannot receive, because it seeth him not - Having no spiritual senses, no internal eye to discern him; nor consequently knoweth him.

He shall be in you — As a constant guest. Your bodies and souls shall be temples of the Holy Ghost dwelling in you.

Verse 18

[18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

I will not leave you orphans — A word that is elegantly applied to those who have lost any dear friend.

I come to you — What was certainly and speedily to be, our Lord speaks of as if it were already.

Verse 19

[19] Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

But ye see me — That is, ye shall certainly see me.

Because I live, ye shall live also — Because I am the living One in my Divine nature, and shall rise again in my human nature, and live for ever in heaven: therefore ye shall live the life of faith and love on earth, and hereafter the life of glory.

Verse 20

[20] At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

At that day — When ye see me after my resurrection; but more eminently at the day of pentecost.

Verse 21

[21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

He that hath my commandments — Written in his heart.

I will manifest myself to him — More abundantly.

7:48 pm--Arrive in Hermann MO; taxi to our getaway homes
Later--meet at Spirit House for devotions, games, S'mores and snores
Later still--go to bed

Saturday, Nov. 8
At a decent hour--breakfast will be provided at each house, one way or another
10:15 am--taxi to wine country
lunchtime--Wurst Haus to buy our own brats to take back to Spirit House to grill; devotions In the middle of the day
Later--taxi to wine country and/or shopping,
7 pm--Stone Hill Winery for dinner (bring your own money)
9:30 pm--Optional Oak Glenn Winery, for those still standing

Sunday, Nov.9
Early-- breakfast provided (April House gets Egg Frittata); (Spirit Hill, we cook our own leftovers), pack bags and bottles
9:45-10 am--Taxi pickup at each house
10:15 am--arrive at train
Later--5-minute devotions on train
2:55 pm--arrive at Union Station

Philosophically, I have a hard time getting too excited about cheering on millionaires playing a game on a team owned by a former Wal-Mart exec who got rich on the backs of underpaid employees... and whose net worth is estimated at $1.8 billion.

Philosophically, too, I have a hard time warming up to the idea of minimum-wage workers paying the billionaire's company $714 for a standing-room-only ticket to Tuesday's game.

But I can watch it on TV. And I get excited nonetheless.

Philosophically it makes no sense to me. Why do I get excited despite what I believe are the income disparity and exploitation on display here?

Beats me. All I know for sure is that I want the Royals to beat them.
