Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Friday, 17 October 2014 "I am a King"
"You are a king, then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me." (John 18:37 ).
Here Jesus affirms the audacious claim that he is a king; audacious because He appears to be without any power at all; with Pilate and the others unaware that He has all power, and is about to break the power of evil, sin and death - in his own dying.
Jesus is indeed the fulfillment of the three great offices of the Hebrews: Prophet, Priest, King. Jesus is the great Prophet, both proclaiming and being the Word of God, the Priest, making intercession on behalf of His people, and King, indeed, King of kings and Lord of lords. Hallelujah ! Amen.
