Blue Springs, Missouri, United States - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs eNote from Pastor Penny Ellwood for Friday, 14 November 2014
Take a quick look at our upcoming events/activites below:
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
I remember when Bill and I first came to Kansas City.  We were a young couple just starting out as parents with no family in the city.  As we looked for a church to call home we wanted, not just a place to be fed and connect with others, but a place where our gifts might make a difference as well.  I'm not sure that has changed for the next generation but our lives have gotten busier and we are called to give and serve in many different ways.  Wouldn’t you love to know how best to use your talents? Where and what you could say, "yes" and “no” to without any guilt, to keep yourself out of those painful serving experiences?  Did you even know you have spiritual gifts?  Every one of us does.  Even you!  The apostle Paul did not want Christians to be “ignorant” about spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:1).  At Resurrection, we don’t either! That’s why we are offering training that can help you begin the fascinating process of discovering how God has uniquely designed and equipped you for service.
Tonight our "Discover Your Spiritual Gifts two day workshop begins. This is a chance to come and learn how God has gifted you and where your dreams and passions might lead you to serve. You’ll study the Bible, use personal assessments, have a chance to make new friends and receive personalized ideas and contacts for putting your unique giftedness into action. We'll start off with dinner at 6:30 pm and conclude this first session at 8:30 pm.  Saturday we'll begin again at 8:30 am with a light breakfast and work through sessions 2 and 3, concluding by12:15 pm.  We have a great group signed up but we'd love it if you would join us too!
Last week we consecrated our commitment cards for 2015 to God. These acts of gratitude acknowledge God's gifts to us, and remind us that we belong to God, and are called by God to share all that we are in response to God's love. They become the means by which other people will come to know God’s grace and mercy as we deepen our commitment and response to the needs of our community and world. We had a great response for our first week, which I am very excited about because we have a big year ahead of us.  I will report our numbers in worship this Sunday.
If you did not have an opportunity to return your annual giving commitment during worship last Sunday, please consider returning your commitment card this week in worship or by mail or online at rezbluesprings.org/annualgiving. Those of you who returned your cards by mail or online, make sure someone from your household picks up a Resurrection coffee mug as a thank you gift as you leave worship this Sunday.
This Sunday we'll continue our sermon series on how we measure our lives by focusing on how we serve.  We've dedicated the whole weekend to learning more about this important measure.  I hope you'll consider joining us.
Here is what's coming up:
Peanut Butter for Backpacks During the longer holiday weekends, we like to include a jar of peanut butter with the food going in the backpacks for our middle school children. This will help to supplement their families limited food supplies on the days they would normally be eating school lunches.  If you'd like to contribute, please bring the regular sized jars (oversized are too heavy for their backpacks) and drop them off on the shelf in the KiDSCOR entrance area.  For more information about how you might contribute to this ministry, contact Sheri Moore.
Discover Your Spiritual Gifts Come and learn how God has gifted you and where your dreams and passions might lead you to serve. You’ll study the Bible, use personal assessments, have a chance to make new friends and receive personalized ideas and contacts for putting your gifts into action. Join us Friday, Nov. 14, 6:30 - 8:30 pm (dinner included), and Saturday, Nov. 15, 8:30 am – 12:15 pm (continental breakfast included) for this workshop. Sign up at Guest Services or online here.

Hanging of the Greens Stay after 10:45 am worship on November 23, to help decorate our sanctuary, and entry areas for the Advent season.  We'll have trees to put up, lights to strings, and ornaments to hang.  We'd love to have your help! It's always a lot of fun. We'll provide lunch.

If you regularly serve on one of our ministry teams, we’ve got your name on a list at Guest Services and would like to know your preferred shirt size. No doubt we’ve missed a few, so if you aren’t on the list and should be, please add your name and shirt size on the last page or email Heather.Sooley@rezbluesprings.org
Christmas at Resurrection is a Kansas City tradition! This must-see musical presentation features more than 300 actors, singers, dancers and instrumentalists in a celebration of Christmas and the depiction of the traditional Christmas story. Make plans to attend a performance December 10–14. We’ve reserved a block of tickets for a group from Resurrection Blue Springs to attend the 7:30 pm performance on Friday, December 12. Our tickets will be$16.60 (including tax). To purchase from this block, contact Laura Cooper (913)232-4178. Join us in Leawood for this great family holiday tradition as we celebrate Christmas at Resurrection!
Looking forward to discovering more about our gifts and service with you this weekend.
Abundant Blessings,
Penny
