Blue Springs, Missouri, United States - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs eNote from Pastor Penny Ellwood for Friday, 21 November 2014
Take a quick look at our upcoming events/activites below:
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
Our tradition at Resurrection is to set aside the Tuesday before Thanksgiving for time for prayers for our church family and to give thanks to God for our many blessings. This year we have prepared prayer guides and created lists with the names of each adult and child in our church family for you. Our hope is that every family will pick up a guide and list as you leave worship. Then on Tuesday over the course of the day you will each take some time, either individually or as a family, to lift up those names on your list in prayer. We have also included names of all those we know of in our congregation serving in the military. We would ask that you include them in your prayers as well. As you leave worship on Sunday, ushers will be handing out these guides and lists. Please pick up both a prayer brochure to guide your time of prayer and a list of church members names to pray over this Tuesday, November 25.
I wanted to offer one last mention that Philip Yancey will be in Leawood speaking tonight, November 21. You won't want to miss this evening. He'll speak about his new book, Vanishing Grace. He's a remarkable author and thinker. He's written over 25 books that have sold more than 15 million copies. I'm really excited to have the opportunity to hear Yancey speak as well as hear the music of Anthony Evans. Tickets are free, but you'll need a ticket. Click here to make your reservation.
I also want to thank everyone who participated in the collections for our Thanksgiving JOY in Serving. We had many bags of food, household and personal supplies delivered for Community Services League to distribute in their food pantry and $25 grocery cards that will help supplement the Thanksgiving dinners for our backpack children. When we dropped off some of the bags at CSL this week, Melodie Chrisman, the director asked that I make sure to tell you all how much they appreciate the donations you have made. I am thankful for your generosity as well and proud to be your pastor. If you still have items for the Thanksgiving drive, don't forget to return them this Sunday as we're turning to Christmas JOY projects this weekend.
This Sunday I hope you'll invite friends and join us in worship as we celebrate Thanksgiving and I conclude our series How You Measure Your Life with a sermon entitled "By Your Witness." We'll explore one last important measure that Jesus charged us with in his final moments on earth. A measure that's almost become a dirty word in our society but doesn't have to be. Come learn how this Sunday.
Here is what's coming up:
Christmas JOY In Serving Visit the JOY table at church on Sunday or rezbluesprings.org/gotjoy • JOY Ways to Give JOY Bags for our Partner Schools, New Resident Kits for Lazarus Women’s Shelter, Compassion Sponsorship, Compassion Item ($40 textbook, $35 Safe Playground), Healthy Foundations items (peanut butter, toothbrush/toothpaste etc.) Watch for these and other holiday giving opportunities all JOY season!
• JOY Ways to Serve Sign up at the JOY table to help serve or to provide requested food items for the Lazarus Table Christmas Lunch on Saturday, Dec. 20.
Hanging of the Greens Stay after our 10:45 am worship on Sunday, November 23rd, to help decorate our sanctuary, KiDSCOR and entrance areas for the Advent season. We'll have trees to put up, lights to strings, and ornaments to hang. We'd love to have your help! It's always a lot of fun. We'll provide lunch.
The Power of Gratitude - Return your Commitment Cards this weekend Each year we have the opportunity to make a financial commitment to support Resurrection’s vision of changing lives, transforming communities and renewing the church. This annual commitment allows each of us to evaluate our giving, what it means and how much it can be for the coming year. It also helps our church to determine a more accurate budget for Resurrection’s ministries. Giving and commitment information will be mailed this week. Thank you for taking the time to pray about your giving. We invite you to return your commitment card during worship, by mail or online at cor.org/commitment.
Community Blood Center Blood Drive Friday, Nov. 28, noon – 3:30 pm, Resurrection Blue Springs Fellowship Hall. Book your appointment today at savealifenow.org, enter Sponsor Code: saratuttle. For additional details, contact Laura Ward at 660-441-1977 or lauratuttle02@gmail.com.
Family Worship on November 30th Thanksgiving weekend is coming, which means we’ll be holding a Family Worship Sunday, November 30th. This means that we won’t have KiDSCOR programming, but our Nursery will be available for infants to 4 years of age. These opportunities allow our families an opportunity to worship together and teach our children about the importance of worship. Worship bags will be available at the Sanctuary entrances to help keep little ones engaged.
Breakfast with Santa Join us to celebrate Christmas by “Giving it Away!” on Saturday, Dec. 6, 9:30 am. We will have “Give it Away” stations for the kids to make Christmas Cards for our friends in the nursing home, blessing bags that they will be able to take with them to give to somone in need, and more. Plus enjoy a pancake breakfast and, of course, our friend Santa will be there for the kids to visit, too!
Christmas at Resurrection is a Kansas City tradition! This must-see musical presentation features more than 300 actors, singers, dancers and instrumentalists in a celebration of Christmas and the depiction of the traditional Christmas story. Make plans to attend a performance December 10–14. We’ve reserved a block of tickets for a group from Resurrection Blue Springs to attend the 7:30 pm performance on Friday, December 12. Our tickets will be$16.60 (including tax). To purchase from this block, contact Laura Cooper (913)232-4178. Join us in Leawood for this great family holiday tradition as we celebrate Christmas at Resurrection!
Service of Healing and Hope There are two special services at our Leawood campus for anyone who has experienced a loss and is finding this time of year difficult - Dec 4, 5:45 and 7:30 pm in Wesley Chapel - free dinner in the Student Center 5:30-7:00 pm. cor.org/carenight
Have a great Friday night and I'll look forward to seeing you live and in person this weekend as we offer all that we have and all that we are to God!
Abundant Blessings,
Penny Ellwood
