Blue Springs, Missouri,United States - The Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs eNote from Pastor Penny Ellwood for Friday, 7 November 2014
Take a quick look at our upcoming events/activites below:
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
I want to take a moment to welcome our newest members from the Coffee With the Pastors this past Monday night.  We had 4 adults and 2 youth join our Resurrection Blue Springs campus.  Make sure you extend a warm welcome this Sunday to:
• Marjorie Keith-Riggs
• Aimee Loewe (Jonah & Joshua)
• Carole Maltby
• Joyce McCollum
It's hard to believe but Thanksgiving is just around the corner. This is the time of year that we contemplate all the things we have to be thankful for and express our gratitude.  It's also that time of year as a church, that our members and those who call Resurrection their church home present their annual giving commitments to the church.  These acts of gratitude acknowledge God's gifts to us, and remind us that we belong to God, and are called by God to share all that we are in response to God's love. They become the means by which other people will come to know God’s grace and mercy and they will allow us deepen our commitment to this community as we seek to change lives, transform our community into God's kingdom.  I hope you will spend time praying about your commitment for 2015.  We will have a special time at the end of worship to consecrate these gifts.  If you can’t be with us this weekend, you can mail your Resurrection Blue Springs Commitment card to the church or complete your commitment online.  We'll continue our sermon series on how we measure our lives this weekend by talking more about generosity as one of the most important measures. I hope you'll join us for this important message.
This Sunday afternoon is our bonfire and hayride at the Wolvertons. it looks like the weather will be perfect for it. Don't forget to bring your lawn chairs and if you'd like to help with food, a bag of chips or side dish will be appreciated by all.  It will be a great opportunity to meet new friends and take in the last of the fall colors.
I'm getting very excited about our "Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts" workshop on November 14 & 15.  This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to learn more about yourself and how to give your best when serving others.  I think we've all had those experiences where we've said "yes" to a plea for help and regretted it later.  This will help you know when and what to say "yes" and "no" to with no guilt, whether it's serving in the church, the workplace or home.  Come learn the more about the unique and special gifts God has given you.  Sign up Sunday!
Here is what's coming up:
The Power of Gratitude begins with our simple decision to generously return to God a portion of the blessings he has provided to us. We know that the true power will come from God when our gifts accomplish far more than we can even imagine. Today we will present our annual giving commitments during worship services. Giving and commitment information will have been mailed to many of you and a commitment card will also be enclosed in your bulletin this Sunday. Thank you for taking the time to return your commitment card in worship, by mail or online at rezbluesprings.org/annualgiving. Each household turning in a commitment card is invited to pick up a Resurrection coffee mug as a thank you gift as you leave worship.
Bonfire and Hayride Join us Nov. 9 at 4 pm at the Wolverton’s Farm for some great family fun at our annual Bonfire and Hayride.  Wolvertons live about 15 minutes from the church towards Buckner, MO (map).  We’ll gather behind their home on a beautiful bluff that provides a wonderful place to build a bonfire and take in the changing leaves of fall below and to watch the sun set.  Randy will have his tractor and trailor ready with hay bales for a ride through the grove around their property.  There will be hot dogs, smores, and hot apple cider.  Come out to experience this family-friendly evening and build community with others from Rez Blue Springs.  Bring a lawn chair and if you’d like to help contribute bring a side dish to share.  Feel free to invite your friends to join us too.
Inaugural Peace Lecture with Rev. Dr. Susan Henry-Crowe, Chief Executive of the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society. Our lives are shaped by a 24 hour news cycle of despair, war, poverty, injustice and inequality. What is our response? How do we approach issues that divide us? Saint Paul School of Theology invites you to attend this Inaugual Peace Lecture by Rev. Dr. Henry-Crowe on Monday, November 10th at 7:30 pm so that you might learn some of the Biblical insights, which inform our action and how we might respond in faithful and informed ways to bring peace and justice. This lecture is free and open to all.  It will be held in the main sanctuary in Leawood.
Peanut Butter for Backpacks During the longer holiday weekends, we like to include a jar of peanut butter with the food going in the backpacks for our middle school children. This will help to supplement their families limited food supplies on the days they would normally be eating school lunches.  If you'd like to contribute, please bring the regular sized jars (oversized are too heavy for their backpacks) and drop them off on the shelf in the KiDSCOR entrance area.  For more information about how you might contribute to this ministry, contact Sheri Moore.
Discover Your Spiritual Gifts Come and learn how God has gifted you and where your dreams and passions might lead you to serve. You’ll study the Bible, use personal assessments, have a chance to make new friends and receive personalized ideas and contacts for putting your gifts into action. Join us Friday, Nov. 14, 6:30 - 8:30 pm (dinner included), and Saturday, Nov. 15, 8:30 am – 12:15 pm (continental breakfast included) for this workshop. Sign up at Guest Services or online here.
