There is a real danger that these powers of sadness and inner emptiness, and the need to throw ourselves into feverish activity or kinds of entertainment, will control us. We try to forget by keeping busy no matter what. For as soon as we stop, the anguish creeps in and the guilt resurfaces. Many people are able to keep going by doing that.
