Doing it Better Together- Responsible Street Outreach
On October 30 about 20 individuals met at First Presbyterian Church to continue coordination of homeless outreach in the coming holiday season. Gabe Shippam provided an update on the Clothes Pantry ministry. This centralized faith based service continues to be a good model in the East Village community. Teresa Clark of the SDPD HOT brought a very helpful update on the street situation. Details from this meeting can be found on the DF website.

Companionship Program
- Training scheduled for Nov 15

Following the launch of the Companionship Program (CP) on October 7 the leadership team has been working diligently on next steps, including planning the next training session for companion volunteers. The training will be held on Saturday, November 15 at the Connections Housing Community Room from 9am-Noon. Trainers for 11/15 include Vanessa Castro (PATH), Travis Larson (ALPHA Project), and John Townsend (Matthew 25:34-40 Ministries). UPLIFT’s Home Team leadership (Susan Amick and Monica Ball) are actively engaged in the CP launch. Susan and Vanessa will be working on the administrative details and preparation for the first matches of volunteers with residents moving out of Connections Housing into permanent housing.

On October 7 the companionship program was launched. 14 people attended the initial orientation and training session at Connections Housing. This is a pilot project which aims to match 10 volunteer companions with Connections residents receiving housing subsidies. The project is a partnership involving PATH, UPLIFT, and DF. If you are interested in being a companion, please attend the training onNovember 15 or contact Bruce Menser,bmenser@gmail.com or (619) 792-7762.
25 Cities 100 Day Campaigns

In October, the 25 Cities design team focused on preparations for the second 100 day campaign. A planning meeting was held on November 6, with concentration on a more specific work plan for the next campaign. SD Rescue Mission participated and is considering joining the design team (Michael Johnson). The main goal of the next campaign is to match 150 veteran and chronic homeless through the CAHP system and to place in housing 100 from this group. The establishment of this new system is highlighting the shortage of affordable and permanent supportive housing.

DF continues to facilitate housing navigation outreach at St Vincent DePaul, two days per week, during their lunch period. The Home Team organized training for Housing Navigator Assistants on November 8 at FPC. This volunteer opportunity is a good corollary to the Companionship program. On November 5 ALPHA Project submitted a proposal for the 25 Cities design team to Funders Together to End Homelessness for $200,000. This funding would support some staff costs, enhance 211 outreach, and provide some specific assistance for residents as they move in to new housing.
