Dear Friends,
The tables are set, the blue-green earth-looking cupcakes are ready, the coffee and tea will be hot, copies of my book on Ruth (well, some of them) will be here; we're getting ready for your arrival for our "Commitment Sunday" worship this Sunday.
I trust you are getting ready, too; filling out your pledge/commitment card, in a spirit of generosity and joy, to help Trinity fulfill its call to be the hands and feet of Jesus here in our community and beyond. Our Finance committee is hopeful that all of us who can will increase our tithe and offerings by at least a portion of what we've been giving to help us retire the mortgage. And certainly, if you prefer, you are welcome to complete your estimate of giving card online by clickinghere.
My sermon topic this Sunday is "The Generative Power of Generosity," for as Jesus said, "Give and it will be given to you." (Luke 6:38), and I'm pretty sure Jesus knew what He was talking about! Generosity is like that, and while it may not seem to make human sense (although it does, really), it does make spiritual and emotional sense.
As I was heading out of the Church yesterday for a lunch meeting about our Faith Mission, one of our long time members came up to me and declared: "I'm just so proud of this church! I'm so pleased that we're doing so much with mission and outreach, touching lives in real ways." I tell you, she made my day! She is who we are!
Oh, and right after we're finished with our worship services on Sunday, we'll right away turn that space into a thriving "food warehouse" so all week long our volunteers can assemble the 1,100 Thanksgiving Baskets we'll give out the following week. And so it goes in this exciting work God has entrusted to us.
