"Not a Silent Night"
This Advent, we will explore each week during Sunday morning
worship, themes from Pastor Adam Hamilton's book, "Not A Silent
Night”. We will turn to Mary "the mother of Jesus", to her witness of Jesus' life and ministry. We will consider how Jesus' divine conception and human birth, shows us, as Christians today, how God's grace and love for humanity shined in the conception, birth, life, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This year may we experience Advent and Christmas anew, through the eyes of Mary, who was willing to humble herself to be God's servant, that the world could receive its' Messiah King.
More than anything else, this Advent/Christmas season, my prayer is that we can see Christmas as a time that God's love came down to earth, as we, like Mary, open our lives to be vessels in which God's power of love may flow. Like our own time in human history, the first Christmas didn't happen under idyllic, peaceful circumstances, but in a world oppressed by evil and tyrannical political powers.
“Not a Silent Night" reminds us that Christmas doesn't depend on sparkling trees and pretty packages. Christmas depends on human beings opening their hearts and minds to the power of God's loving grace, to heal us all, even in the midst of the adversity and brokenness of human life.
Pastor Adam Hamilton writes: "There was no one who ever had a greater connection to Jesus Christ, no one who ever experienced and was a more central part of God's plan, than Mary." The early church spoke of Mary as Theotokos, - a Greek title meaning "God bearer," or one who gives birth to God. A question for us to think about this Advent/Christmas season, is how can we become Christ bearers in this world, who through our discipleship give rebirth to the light and love of Jesus for humanity in this world? How can we show a world with very few silent nights, amidst war zones and human cries for
help, that Christ comes each Christmas anew to show the world that God is Love?
May love come down again this Christmas, as we as Christ bearers in this world, show all of humanity, by our witness, that Jesus is the incarnation of God's love for all of humankind. May love come down this Christmas, as we become Christ bearers who shine the light and love of Jesus in our world.(Pastor Anne)
"Love Came Down At Christmas"
Love came down at Christmas
Love all lovely, Love divine
Love was born at Christmas
Star and Angels gave the sign
Worship we the Godhead
Love incarnate, Love divine
Worship we our Jesus
But wherewith for sacred sign
Love shall be our token
Love be yours and love be mine
Love to God and all men
Love for plea and gift and sign.

TO: The Congregation of WUMC
FROM: SPPRC
The SPPRC met this month to discuss recent issues that led to disruption and undeserved stress for Pastor Anne and the office staff. We wish to commend Chuck Carver for his courage in speaking
up on October 19th when many of us kept similar thoughts to ourselves. His words were thought-provoking, and we were encouraged to follow up.
We all have the right to express our opinions, but we should do so with respect and consideration of others. Pastor Anne deserves to be treated with respect…period. Our office staff deserves respect and a working environment that is free from inappropriate disruptions.
The SPPRC kindly asks that anyone who visits Pastor Anne or the office staff does so in a manner which is respectful and considerate. We ask visitors to remember that our staff has much to do in a relatively few hours so it is important not to ‘hang out’ or to be loud and disruptive in the office area.
We thank you for your cooperation. Pastor Anne and our staff will certainly appreciate your consideration in these matters.
