The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown of Kansas City, Missouri, United States Weekly Enote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 2 January 2015

Friday, 2 January 2015,
Happy New Year RezDowntowners!
I hope this email finds you doing well and that your new year is off to a good start!  On New Years Day, I always spend time giving thanks for the year past, reflecting over all the things I generally don’t take the time to celebrate, recognize or remember…and then I try to dream about what would I like to celebrate next year.  What accomplishments will I want to remember or recognize.  I am hoping to celebrate Resurrection Downtown’s next steps.  I am looking forward to recognizing the face of my son (to be born in June) and I am longing to remember 2015 as being the best year yet.  Please know that I am praying for you as you begin this year, and I look forward to walking with you through all of the holy adventures God has in store for you, for this city, and for RezDowntown.  Happy New Year!
With a new year, this weekend brings with is a new sermon series.  On Saturday and Sunday, we’ll be kicking off a new sermon series called, Half Truths.  We’ll be spending time dealing with those simple phrases, such as “Everything happens for a reason,” and “God won’t give you more than you can handle” – phrases we’ve all heard at some point in our lives. Maybe we’ve said them. Maybe we’ve received them.  They all seem to capture some element of truth – yet they also miss the point in very glaring ways. Join us this weekend, as we breakdown these “Half Truths.”  This week’s half-truth that we’ll be focusing on is, “Everything happens for a reason.”   Please invite someone to join you in worship! It will be your first opportunity to maintain perfect attendance in worship!
In the meantime, here are several ways to get connected to the life of this church:
Time for Resurrection Downtown’s New Year’s REZolutions! As you leave the worship service this weekend, ushers will be handing you a checklist with suggested things to do in order to make your spiritual journey best this year! We hope it will spark some interest and give you ideas on how to get to know others and get connected within the church, grow in your faith and serve those in your community. This New Year will be packed with study opportunities and community events. We challenge you to check each one off! If you have questions, contactKelly.Sisney@rezdowntown.org.
Serving the Church – RezDT Could Use Your Help! It takes more than 40 volunteers to make one worship service happen, and we have five services! Start out 2015 by joining us in committing to volunteer one Sunday a month? We have lots of teams to choose from: ushers, greeters, Communion servers, C.A.R.T., KiDS COR, parking, data entry, hospitality, Connection Point and Prayer Team. Volunteering benefits more than just your church. It also helps you to get to know others, and the blessings received in the giving of your time are invaluable! ContactJackie.Thomas@cor.org if you have questions or are willing to serve. For a list of volunteer positions and more information, check out our website at rezdowntown.org/serveatrezdowntown.
