The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs of Blue Springs,Missouri, United States Pastor Penn Ellwoody's eNote: Happy New Year! for Friday, 2 January 2015

Friday, 2 January 2015
Take a quick look at our upcoming events/activites below:
Dear Resurrection Blue Springs Family and Friends,
Happy New Year!!  Bill and I are busy checking over our packing list to make sure we have included everything we need for our Mission trip to Jamaica.  We leave tomorrow morning at oh-dark-thirty for a week-long trip. Our team will be working with our partners at the Brown's Town Methodist Church serving on the Methodist Farm there for two of the days. If you remember, we met Rev. Athlone Harrison a year ago when he visited our campus.  This farm is striving to be a teaching farm as well as an economic empowerment opportunity not only for the community, but also for the Jamaica Methodist Church. We'll also have the chance to connect with another team from Minnesota coming to work at the farm too.  Next our team will be spending two days working with children in the classroom at the local primary school in St. Anne's Bay working on both numeracy and literacy and helping with the feeding program.  Our last day, we'll have a chance to explore the culture and visit Dunns River Falls, the location of a famous waterfall that empties into the Carribean sea.  I can't think of a better way to start out 2015, serving God with others and making new friends with our partners as we work to build the kingdom of God together.
This Sunday we begin a new sermon series called "Half Truths" in which we'll examine commonly held beliefs, and expressions that Christians often say but which are only half true at best.  This week's sermon title is "Everything Happens for a Reason?"  We'll consider this and other similar expressions Christians say and believe like: "It's all a part of the plan,"  "It was meant to be," and "It must be the will of God." You likely know someone who needs this message – someone who has been turned away from faith because they cannot reconcile the idea of a good and loving God with the suffering or pain they or others they love have experienced.  Pass on this lighthearted video promo to invite them to join us or post it on your Facebook page.  It's only 60 seconds - take a look:Half-Truths Promo
In this new year, I hope you will consider some of the upcoming ways to grow in your faith and serve others too.  Check out the list of new classes and ways to serve coming up this month:
