About the Report:
On Pins & Needles is a new research study conducted by the Alliance, Mental Health America, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness that provides new data on 1,601 family caregivers of persons with severe mental illness including people caring for a loved one with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, major depression, or other mental illnesses. The report briefing will further describe the challenges facing these families and include gaps in existing coverage. In addition, the experts will offer public policy solutions based on the findings from the caregivers who were surveyed in the study. The study was made possible through grant funding from Allergan, Eli Lilly, Novartis, and Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC.

"New Report Analyzes Support Systems for Low-Income Older Adults and Family Caregivers" National Alliance for Caregiving of Bethesda, Maryland, United States for Tuesday, 9 February 2016
{Caregiving Advocacy Listserve} from the National Alliance for Caregiving
There are nearly 35 million Americans providing unpaid care to an older adult. As the population ages, caregiving is an issue that will touch every family, rich or poor. A new Special Report, and accompanying video, from Justice in Aging (formerly the National Senior Citizens Law Center), Advocacy Starts at Home: Strengthening Supports for Low-Income Older Adults and Family Caregivers, looks at the issue of family caregiving through the lens of senior poverty. The paper proposes solutions that will not only help low-income older adults age in dignity with the supports they need, but also offers solutions that will support all families, regardless of their resource level.
Read the paper and watch the accompanying video of one caregiver's story.
