Resurrection Blue Springs,
Greetings on this Friday morning! I know this has been a busy week for many of you with the school year winding to a close. I've enjoyed the facebook pictures of all the year-end recognitions and graduation celebrations from preschool to college. I remember these days with my own children as exciting, exhausting, fulfilling and a little bittersweet all at the same time. They grow up too fast! Of course, when you're in the midst of it, it's hard to believe and some days not soon enough. I'm praying for strength for all our parents as you close out the school year and transition into the summer activities.
Our church has been a part of some of these fun year end activities this week. Last Sunday evening our youth enjoyed their last rezlife game night of the school year. We had 37 youth participate in the fun!. It's awesome to see this group of youth growing larger every year and I am so grateful to the amazing team of adult volunteers who have beening leading them. I'm praying some of you might be feeling a nudge to get involved with our youth too as we'll be needing more volunteers this fall with the growth we've experienced.
We also had a great two days at our partner school, Wendell Phillips Elementary. We hosted a Fun Day on Monday with our Downtown campus and returned on Thursday to help the teachers pack up for the move to the new school location. The kids had a great time at Fun Day with all the activities but the highlight was having the chance to meet Slugger and receive the plastic balls and bats donated by the Royals for each child. A special thanks to everyone who took part in planning and preparation of these events.
This Sunday in worship Pastor Adam will have just returned from the UM General Conference in Portland, Oregon. This is the 10 days set aside every four years for elected clergy and lay delegates from the United Methodist churches around the world to gather to discern God’s will for the United Methodist Church for the next four years, including our mission, program, budget and policies. This year has been particularly challenging as the church seeks to remain united yet wrestles over a wide-ranging understanding of human sexuality. This Sunday Pastor Adam will be discussing the conference decisions and the challenges in regards to homosexuality in a message entitled, "When Christians Disagree." Parents we want you to be aware that this will be discussed within the sermon on Sunday. KiDSCOR Sunday School is available at both services. We hope to see you in worship – and invite someone to come with you!
One last thing for all you men, we regrettably had to postpone the Iron Sharpens Iron Men's Retreat scheduled for tonight and tomorrow. We learned this week that there was a scheduling snafu on the Camp Timberlake end that involved a wedding. We made the decision to postpone the retreat to a later date in the fall. Watch for more information on the new date to come later.
Take a look at what else is coming up below....
