Pastor Penny Ellwood's eNote for Thursday, 24 November 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs of Blue Springs, Missouri, United States
Thursday, November 24, 2016
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
I wanted to send the enote out a day earlier this week to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving. Our Holy Land group arrived safely back to Kansas City yesterday morning. It was an amazing trip. I think it is going to take some time to process everything though. It was like drinking out of a fire hose for eight days. There is so much to see and experience and so many emotions that go along with this journey traveling the footsteps of Jesus. Christmas will be richer for the experience this year I have no doubt.
I also want to remind those of you in town for Thanksgiving of our Blood Drive honoring Sara Tuttle-Inman on Black Friday. Take a break from fighting Black Friday crowds at the mall and give the gift that really matters. Giving an hour of your time and a pint of your blood in a cushioned chaise lounge will save two lives. It will also honor Sara’s courageous battle with brain cancer lost on her 30th birthday this spring. The blood drive is Friday from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm at the church. Appointments aren’t needed; walk-in donors are welcome! Bring a friend or family member along.
This Sunday begins our Advent season. Advent is the four-week period of time in preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ and anticipation of his Second Coming on Christmas. Our Advent sermon series this year is called, Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph. Each week we’ll explore part of Joseph’s story, and see what we can learn from Joseph to inform our own journey of faith. I’d like to invite you to post the video promo on your Facebook page and Twitter feeds and blogs to invite your friends to join you for worship. Here’s the link to the video promo - http://cor.org/josephadvent – you can copy and paste it into your Facebook or Twitter feed.
I can’t wait to see you this weekend and take a look at all the upcoming activities and events . . .
Blood Drive – Friday, Nov. 25, from 11 am – 4 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Share the gift of life – sign up at savealifenow.org, enter Sponsor Code: saratuttle. For additional details, contact Laura Ward at 660-441-1977 or lauratuttle02@gmail.com.

We’ll assist with Christmas cookie decorating, gift giving, craft making and snack time. We’ll carpool from the church at 1pm, arriving at Phillips at Attucks Elementary at approximately 1:30. We’ll finish by 3:30. This will be the most memorable thing you’ll do all Christmas season! Register here.

We’ll prepare the lunch (in advance) and serve it buffet style. We’ll provide some “socks of kindness”, which Santa will be handing out. Men, women and children who are either homeless, or in dire need count on Lazarus Table for a hot meal and some products for their basic needs. Won’t you provide some Christmas Joy? We’ll carpool from the church at 9am, to arrive at Grand Avenue Temple at approximately 9:30am. Well finish by 2pm. Register here.
