DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2017 
Paul wrote, “I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” (EPHESIANS 3:17-18 (NIV))
Over 30 years ago I met a woman who made a lasting impression on my faith journey. She was bright, articulate, a mother of two young children, and a career woman. She also had breast cancer. Still, she had a joy that often perplexed me. We talked about many things each time we met, and the conversations always included her affirmation, “God is good.” Once, when the cancer that would eventually take her life recurred, she repeated to me, “God is good.” I remember screaming on the inside, How can you say that? You have two young children and a loving husband who need you in their lives! But I smiled and nodded. Because of my friend’s witness, the affirmation that “God is good” now reminds me that our loving Creator suffers with us when the bad things of this world come our way. God loves us, comforts us, cries with us, and holds us in our darkest moments. Our God is a God of goodness and mercy who comes to us as we experience life. The ultimate gift of faith in Christ is the promise of eternal life. With hope we can truly say, “God is good.”

Merciful and loving God, thank you for being with us on our journey. Amen.

TODAY'S READING: Isaiah 40:28-31
Isaiah 40:28 Haven’t you known, haven’t you heard
that the everlasting God, Adonai,
the Creator of the ends of the earth,
does not grow tired or weary?
His understanding cannot be fathomed.
29 He invigorates the exhausted,
he gives strength to the powerless.
30 Young men may grow tired and weary,
even the fittest may stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in Adonai will renew their strength,
they will soar aloft as with eagles’ wings;
when they are running they won’t grow weary,
when they are walking they won’t get tired.
