Greetings RezDowntowners,
For the past few days I have been at The Great Plains Annual Conference with Pastor Todd and several other Resurrection Pastors and Leaders in Lincoln, NE. It was great to gather with over 1800 people to talk about matters pertaining to the future of the United Methodist Church in the Kansas and Nebraska areas. It was great to hear about how God has been moving through diverse communities all throughout the Great Plains area, but it was even greater hearing about how that work has had global impacts as well. It gave me great joy this past week knowing that you all have become a big part of that story, particularly when it comes to reshaping ministry in the heart of cities! In fact, I found that I spent several moments thanking God for you this past week while sitting in these meetings at Annual Conference. Thank you for the ways you're allowing God to use you to change the world.
I’m looking forward to this coming weekend in worship, as we continue in our sermon series on W*RK, by focusing on how we can “find the right kind of work” in a message entitled, “The Interview.” We’ll be worshiping at our regular service times on Saturday at 5:10pm and then again on Sunday at 9:00am, 10:45am, 11:15am and 5:00pm. If you have friends or neighbors whose lives have been touched by unemployment or underemployment, please consider inviting them to join you in worship this weekend.
Lastly, after being away from Kansas City for the last few days, I can’t wait to get back into town to be apart of the exciting things that God is doing through you. This is going to be a huge week. On Saturday, we’ll be hosting our “Women’s Self-Protection Course.” After that we’ll be launching several studies including Disciple 2 and Making Sense of the Bible, we’ll have opportunities for service at Wheatley Elementary through Bless The School and of course we’ll be kicking off our first ever Vacation Bible Camp! I hope you’ll take the time to join us for one or all of these life-giving events.

All you need to do is show up at 1522 McGee on Saturday, June 21, at 9 am wearing clothes that can get dirty, and we will send you out to serve. For June, we will be serving a meal through Lazarus Ministries, doing organizational work for a summer reading program, playing bingo with our friends at reStart and a whole host of other projects. We will also have an on-site knitting project for those who knit or would like to learn. Come on out and invite a friend! If you have questions, contact Pastor Todd at todd.maberry@rezdowntown.org.
BBQ Club with Pastor Todd – Where is the best BBQ in town? Join Pastor Todd on his quest to find out as he tries a new place on the third Saturday of each month. For June, the BBQ Club will be dining at Q39 (1000 W. 39th St., Kansas City, MO). Q39 is a hybrid of two Kansas City favorites and a new concept in barbeque and wood-fire grilling, led by national barbeque champion Rob Magee. Q39 features the area’s first open barbeque scratch kitchen. If you love BBQ, plan to meet Pastor Todd Saturday, June 21, around 12:30 pm (after FaithWork). Bring a friend—unless your friend is a vegetarian!
I am so blessed to be a part of this community and I am so proud to serve Christ with you in this city. I'm looking forward to seeing you in worship this weekend, but until then, have a great and God-filled Friday!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
