The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown Enote with Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 4 July 2014

The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown Enote with Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 4 July 2014
Greetings RezDowntowners,
What a beautiful kick-off to the July 4th weekend!  Today is one of those days that calls for doing whatever it takes to get outside and enjoying all that God has to offer.  Wendy and I are spending the weekend here walking, running and biking in and around downtown Kansas City reflecting over the fact that this weekend marks our 5-year anniversary in downtown Kansas City; and what an adventure it has been!  To think about all of the things that have happened over those five years is almost overwhelming. The baptisms, weddings, the moves, the services, the new member celebrations, all the growth, and then I think about how much the city has changed since we’ve been in town…I count all of these as testaments to God, as the One through whom all things are possible.  I am privileged to simply be a part of it.
As a way of kicking off the Fourth of July weekend, I’ll be officiating a wedding between two RezDowntowners, and I suppose it’s fitting.  As the rest of Kansas City celebrates our nation’s independence, I’ll be celebrating the overwhelming love of God that makes sense out of the non-sensical, connects the disconnected, and always seems to find a way forward no matter what the circumstances are to accomplish something amazing!  I can’t think of a better way to celebrate five years of being in Kansas City and I can’t think of a more fitting description of our experience at RezDowntown.  I am so thankful to be on this holy adventure with you!
I’m looking forward to seeing you in worship this weekend.  We’ll be hosting Family Worship Weekend, as there is no KidsCOR programming.  However, we’ll still plan to have childcare for kids under the age of 4.
Here are some ways to connect to the life of our community over the next few weeks:

Come back for the evening concert on the day you volunteer. Sign up at cor.org/leadership-renewal (click on link on the right side).
Mission Immersion Experience in Omaha – RezDowntown is piloting a mission immersion experience in Omaha, Nebraska, September 18-21. The trip is for those who are interested in issues of poverty and social justice and want experience in serving with and for the poor.  The team will be touring and serving in local organizations that address poverty, working in a community garden, eating in a community café, worship in a multicultural setting, and much more.  The total cost for the trip is $200, and the application deadline is July 31.  The trip is limited to 10 people, so do not delay in signing up.  Applications can be picked up at the connection point, or by contact Pastor Todd (todd.maberry@cor.org).
I am so blessed to be a part of this community and I am so proud to serve Christ with you in this city.  I am so thankful to be a part of such a dynamic and life-giving community of people like you.  I'm looking forward to seeing you in worship this weekend, but until then, have a great and God-filled Independence Day!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
