During this week Nazarenes dedicate themselves to interceding for our church and our world. Special requests are provided for a regional prayer plan.
Coordinating with the interdenominational World Day of Prayer (Friday, March 4), the Nazarene World Week of Prayer was begun with hopes that this event would re-ignite prayer flames, deepen commitment to prayer and fasting, and precipitate revival in our churches and lives.
Join with Nazarenes around the world in praying for God to move in each of the regions in the Church of the Nazarene.
Specific prayer requests for each region will be featured on the Prayer Mobilization Line during the Nazarene World Week of prayer

"Developing Leaders" by Stan Toler
"7 Signs of a Great Leader"
Good leaders aren't all that difficult to find. Lots of people have enough vision and personality to draw a few people with them and accomplish a task. Football coaches, pastors, business executives, military officers-there are many examples of good leaders to choose from.
But what makes a great leader?
What makes the difference between an executive who can run a profitable branch and a founding CEO who can build a global brand? What do great statesmen like Winston Churchill or a Martin Luther King Jr. have that your leader lacks?
The difference between a good leader and a great leader isn't education, or management expertise, it's the fact that they approach life and leadership in a way no one else does.
Here are seven things all great leaders have in common.
1. They Listen
Most leaders have ideas, but great leaders listen before they speak about their vision, their solutions, and their point of view. Spend 30 minutes with a great leader, and you may be doing most of the talking-in response to their questions.
2. They Dream
I know. A dream without a plan is just a wish. But all great visions begin with a huge, audacious dream. Good leaders think about making a 5 percent gain next quarter. Great leaders dream about eradicating diseases, healing centuries-old conflicts, or stepping foot in a place no person has ever stood. Great leaders have big dreams.
3. They Give
It's not possible to be a good leader while looking out for yourself. You can't lead a company or even a church while focused primarily on your own rewards. You can't solve a problem like providing clean water to an entire nation or transformed lives while thinking primarily about what's in it for you. Great leaders are selfless.
4. They Love
Great leaders have big hearts. They care about the people they lead as much as the work they do. Not all great leaders are loveable teddy-bear types, but they all have a deep love for the needs of others.
5. They Confront
Great leaders do not run to confrontation, but they do not avoid it. They confront their own fears, the brutal facts of their situation, injustice in the world, or poor performance by others. The greatest leaders are involved in the greatest conflicts because they have the greatest vision for change.
6. They Start
Lots of people have plans for how to spend a trillion dollars. Few people think of ways to accumulate that much wealth. Great leaders don't just talk a good game. They get up and go to work every day.
7. They Finish
Anyone can talk a good game. Good leaders can get the job done nearly all of the time. Great leaders finish and finish well. They realize that defeat is not final and that "almost" is unacceptable. Great leaders are in the game to finish and to win.
I've known many, many good leaders but few great ones. That's a shame because any leader can exemplify these seven characteristics. You can too!
Who is the greatest leader you'd ever known, and what did you learn from him or her? I'd love to hear about it! Share your answer on Facebook or Twitter.[Stan Toler]

Regional Praise Reports and Prayer Requests
Asia-Pacific Region
Fiji, South Pacific

The devastating impact made by Cyclone Winston as it swept across Fiji on February 19 and 20, is still just now being fully realized.
"Forty-two Fijians now confirmed dead - disaster officials continue to deploy team to help those affected across Fiji," tweeted government spokesman Dan Gavidi on February 25th.
The fear is that the death toll will only increase as aerial surveys are revealing that entire villages in the hardest hit coastal zones have been completely wiped out.
Melanesia South Pacific Field Strategy Coordinator, Rev. Harmon Schmelzenbach, has now been in Fiji for two days and brings the following report.

UPDATE FROM FIJI AFTER DEVASTATION OF CYCLONE WINSTON
Fiji, South Pacific: The devastating impact made by Cyclone Winston as it swept across Fiji on February 19 and 20, is still just now being fully realized.
“Forty-two Fijians now confirmed dead – disaster officials continue to deploy team to help those affected across Fiji,” tweeted government spokesman Dan Gavidi on February 25th.

Would you consider a gift to impact the lives of those devastated by Cyclone Winston? Give through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries.
“Descending out of 40,000 feet along the southern coast of Fiji, we landed at Suva, the capital which is located on the southeast edge of the island.
Credit: Fiji Govt.
During the arrival, I can see destruction, but the enormity of it is hard to imagine or fully comprehend. What I do know is that out of all of the thousands and thousands of cyclones, storms, typhoons and hurricanes that have ever been recorded by mankind… evidently this Cyclone Winston has now ranked among the top ones in recorded history.
Many villages in the southern area came through the storm well, with only minor damage.
The last 24 hours have been filled with meetings with our Nazarene leaders on the ground in Fiji. The meetings have included many hours of listening to report after report not only of damage done but harrowing stories of heroes, survival, tragedy and loss. My conclusion at this point is that it seems that the more southern part of this main island is wind torn and shaken but really doing quite well even though much of it will probably still be without electricity for quite some time.
Many villages were leveled.
On the other hand, the north of this island and many of the outer islands are a very different story. Very bad. I have been able to get a few photos from our Nazarene pastors, showing their families and the debris that once represented their homes.
Rev. Leilani
Rev. Leilani, who is the Chancellor of the South Pacific Nazarene Theological College, wept as she described one of the known 42 casualties, a very close relative, “Harmon, it’s really hard to believe he’s gone…” For many, much of what they’ve known is gone now.
Because of the faithfulness of Nazarenes in giving to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in the past, the International Church of the Nazarene has been able to begin bringing tangible help as of today.
In working with each of our Nazarene pastors that were able to make it into the capital, we began the process of documenting and prioritizing the greatest needs. 1) basic shelter, 2) food, 3) water. Sixteen years of history in these islands has taught us that this is always where we begin.
Your prayer response is priceless and over and over I’ve been listening to testimonies of God’s presence and protection!

Please consider making a donation to the relief efforts!
Your financial response is generally being prioritized this way:
  • Immediate survival needs for families of the Nazarene pastors.
  • Immediate survival needs of Nazarene Pastors’ extended and church families.
  • Immediate survival needs of surounding community.
  • Church and parsonage structure.
At this point, the unfolding magnitude of trying to just deal with some of the above need makes us realize that nothing short of a huge miracle will make this happen…but of course we all believe in a God of miracles, that’s why we do what we do…
As we’ve said since this cyclone hit a few days ago, we believe all of the pain and heartache that the enemy intends for evil, God will turn around and do great and mighty things that will bring glory to His name as He builds His church… So any resources sent will go to these above needs first and if the miracle of God’s people responding goes beyond that, anything more will be directly applied to all the exact same strategies that have successfully been building the Church of the Nazarene across the islands of Fiji for all these years and keep taking us aggressively forward, planting church after church after church, while bringing hope and life eternal in Jesus name!”
Thank you for your continued prayer for the people of Fiji. Your contribution through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries will make an immeasurable impact in the lives of those devastated by the storm.

NEW REGIONAL MEMBER CARE COORDINATOR ANNOUNCED – A FIRST FOR GLOBAL MISSION REGIONS!
Regional Announcement: Member Care on the Asia-Pacific Region has just reached a new level of development!
On March 1, 2016, Cindy Schmelzenbach will become the Region’s first Asia-Pacific Member Care coordinator! Cindy, wife of Melanesia South Pacific Field Strategy Coordinator Harmon Schmelzenbach, comes to this assignment with a lot of passion, experience, and training. Cindy currently serves as Personnel and Member Care & Development Coordinator for the Melanesia South Pacific Field.
“Member care is the ongoing preparation, equipping and empowering of mission personnel for effective and sustainable life, ministry and work.”- Definition agreed upon by the Global Member Care Network of the WEA Mission Commission in 2008.
What exactly is “Member Care?” A generally agreed upon definition is that, “Member care is the ongoing preparation, equipping and empowering of mission personnel for effective and sustainable life, ministry and work.” ¹ It is also one of the nine Regional Priorities that helps the Asia-Pacific Region strategically prioritize activities. “Ministry is about people. As a Region, we will develop systems and initiatives that develop and care holistically for all the cross-cultural workers and their families serving on the Region.” ²
It may seem like a daunting task to help develop Member Care systems on a region that includes 6 fields and 175 employed and volunteer missionary personnel, not counting children! But Cindy is looking forward to the assignment.
“I am honestly very energized in thinking of the opportunity to serve in this role. It is truly a privilege to serve on the Asia-Pacific team,” said Schmelzenbach.
Marty Hoskins, Personnel Coordinator for Global Missions, expressed his full support of this development.
“I’m excited that Cindy has accepted this new role of Member Care Coordinator for the Asia-Pacific Region,” says Hoskins. “Cindy brings expertise because of her training and experience but more than that she brings a passion for developing and caring for people, especially those called to serve as missionaries. Not only is this a first for Asia-Pacific but the first for any of our Global Mission regions. We look forward to working with Cindy as we help each of our regions develop and implement Member Care.”
Breathing Deep – Endurance for the Race!
Cindy is taking the lead role in coordinating a March meeting of field Member Care Coordinators to be held in Manila, Philippines. She has also begun writing a series of monthly articles that will be posted on the Asia-Pacific Regional web site. The first article, “Breathing Deep… Endurance for the Race” has been well received.
Welcome, Cindy![Submitted by Dave Hane, A-P Regional Personnel Coordinator.]

EXCITING NEWS FOR THE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE…NOW REGISTERED IN SINGAPORE!!
Singapore: It is official! The Church of the Nazarene is registered in Singapore. This official government recognition opens the door for the continued development of the Church of the Nazarene in Singapore.
The announcement was made on February 7, 2016, during the “House of Bread” gathering, that the Registry of Societies had approved in principle the application for registration. The exciting news was received with great thanksgiving!
“House of Bread” celebrating this great news!
Asia-Pacific Regional Director Mark Louw was present during the announcement and had many encouraging and inspiring words to impart to those in attendance:
“It is with great joy that I celebrate with the House of Bread the news that the Church of the Nazarene has now officially been registered in the Republic of Singapore. After months of consultation with colleagues, lawyers, and the governmental department involved, along with countless hours of prayer and anticipation, we finally got to celebrate that which the Lord has done. I’m deeply appreciative of the foundation laid through the ministry of the House of Bread and all those in Singapore who have worked so diligently to see the registration completed. As a result of the ministry of many and the leadership of Dave and Kim Hane, since 2009, a solid nucleus of excited disciples already exist to lead and guide the church in ways that will address specific areas of need in this great nation. Great days lie ahead for the Church of the Nazarene, Singapore, as we worship our Lord in spirit and in truth, seeking and dispensing His grace according to His leading.”- Dr. Mark Louw, Asia-Pacific Regional Director - at the celebration.
Rev. Shireen Elliott has been tasked with taking the Church in Singapore to the next stage of development. Shireen and her husband, Collin, moved to Singapore from South Africa in 2015.
Please pray:
That the Church might be effective in reflecting Christ and making Christlike disciples in this great city nation of 5.5 million people.
That more small churches would be formed and that a vibrant worship service would be established and gain strength.
That the church in Singapore will be a blessing to Singapore and to other nations in the region as Singapore is a melting pot of nationalities and tribes.
That leadership will be developed and new leaders of church groups will emerge from the harvest.
The official launch of the Church of the Nazarene will take place at a date to be announced later.[Submitted by: Shireen Elliott]
Read on to find out what the Asia-Pacific Regional Director had to say about the news, and how we can pray for the further progress of the newly registered church!

That the World May Know... To Every Tribe and Nation Through the Audible Word!
Asia-Pacific Region

Story...whether that be around the camp fire, bedtime, the bamboo community hut, or the downtown coffee shop, oral stories have a unique way of capturing the attention of an audience.
As a Church, we are given the mandate of taking the Good News to 'every tribe and nation.' Do you realize that in the 21st century, over 2,100 languages have yet to have any part of the scripture available to them in written form?¹ Additionally, there is an estimated 4 billion people who are 'oral learners,' those who either can't or won't learn through reading.² Together this makes up at least 60% of the world's population. How do we reach these 'tribes and nations?'
You could be part of this Great Commission Ministry!

PRAYER NEEDED FOR BUDGET CRISIS AT KUDJIP NAZARENE HOSPITAL
Papua New Guinea: Prayer is requested for Nazarene Health Ministries in Papua New Guinea (PNG), and health care across Papua New Guinea, as a significant budget crisis looms.
The nation of PNG is in a financial crisis that has caused 40% cuts in government staff funding to church-run hospitals like Kudjip Nazarene Hospital and may cut as much as 80% of government operational support.
The Hospital, Rural Health Services, and Community Based Health Care will be more reliant on church donations as well as the hospital raising patient fees, while also pursuing every avenue for cutting costs. This may soon close some hospital services and limit rural health supplies as well as Community Based Health Care trainings.See this incredible story of how the national workers cut their own salaries in order to continue serving the people of the highlands!
Most incredibly, the national staff voluntarily took a pay cut to try to continue serving the health and spiritual needs of the people of the highlands.
Please pray for God’s intervention and provision.[Submitted. Dr. Scot Dooley – hospital administrator]

GENERAL BOARD RELEASES GLOBAL PRAYER REQUESTS BY REGION
Global: The General Board has released a copy of the Global Prayer Requests by Region. Please consider taking the opportunity to download these requests and distribute them to your churches for focused and intentional prayer.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.- James 5:16 (NIV)
GENERAL BOARD Africa
• Pray for the persecuted church—many believers are persecuted and some are even killed for their faith in Jesus Christ. We should pray that the Lord will strengthen the believers who live and worship in communities that persecute the church. Pray that the believers will be strengthened by the Lord and will have divine wisdom and grace as they advance God’s kingdom.
• Pray for a unified vision to intensify the multiplication of disciples and churches in the Africa Region, with a goal to reach membership of one million by the year 2020. Pray that every district in Africa will accomplish rapid reproduction of disciples and local churches through saturation evangelism and the intentional multiplication of churches using reproducible methodologies.
• Pray that the churches will achieve rapid incorporation of new believers through dynamic Christian, compassionate, missional fellowship, training them to be missionfocused and strategy-centered in their ministry practices.
• Pray that we will achieve rapid reproduction and development of church leaders for Africa (lay and clergy). • Pray that every Nazarene home will be a “nursery” for holiness champions.
Asia Pacific Leadership Transitions:
• Two district superintendents on the Australia New Zealand Field, Satish Manmothe, and Roland Hearn
• Taiwan District Leadership alignment and Taiwan Nazarene Theological College choosing a new president
• Search for district superintendent in Southern Tagalog and a president for Visayan Nazarene Bible College
• Restructuring of Asia Pacific Resource Center and Asia Pacific Regional Office
• Appointment of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Field Coordinators
• Korea National District Assembly—election of a new district superintendent and district leadership in March 2016 • Spiritual Breakthrough:
• For spiritual breakthrough and outpouring of God’s Spirit that will bring increased unity, growth, and fruitfulness. Pray specifically for district leadership across the region and in GENERAL BOARD team family relationships (particularly with missionary kids). Pray for communication within the team in shared ministry with national leaders, local churches, and districts to strengthen long-term fruitfulness despite difficult situations (such as health decisions, retirements, shortage of laborers, and persecution). Together we will teach and disciple (with church planting) the next generation of leaders with joy! New Work: • Restart of the work in Republic of Palau in Micronesia
• Church planting team, which has been developing and training for two years, will be launched to enter a new large city (in a sensitive area) on Sealands Field in July. (This large city has two major and four other smaller, unreached people groups.)
• Pray for VISION 2020 goals to be fulfilled for God’s glory and for the planting and building of His Church in new areas. Government Relations:
• Kudjip Nazarene Hospital faces a potential financial crisis with Papua New Guinea possibly reducing its government partnership funding by as much as 40 percent this year.
• Korea Nazarene University is undergoing Consultation with Government Ministry of Education.
• Pray for favor with local authorities in terms of registration of a local church on Sealands Field; its process has been rather slow.
Member Care:
• Pray for missionaries as they go on home assignment that God will refresh and renew them as they share in the churches and reconnect with family. Pray that God would use them to challenge the hearts of the people to answer the calling of God to be sent out as workers to His harvest fields.
• Pray for new personnel transitioning to AP region.
Eurasia
• The many refugees (hundreds of thousands) in transition from either Syria and Ir*q or Northern Africa
• Secularization and materialism in Northern Europe and CIS
• The need for Christian maturity in India and South Asia—fast growing but in need of depth and of developing an indigenous holiness message
• The unrest in the Middle East—pray for protection, but also pray for the harvest in reaching m-people
• Thanksgiving for an excellent Regional Conference last November 2015.
Mesoamerica North Central Field
• Pray for renewal of the vision of the leaders who for years are still doing the same things, and we still have the same results. • Pray for the country of El Salvador, considered the most violent of the isthmus.
Mexico Field:
• Pray that the Holy Spirit of God will flood every leader and member of the Church of the Nazarene in Mexico.
Haiti Field:
• Haiti is one of the neediest countries in the Mesoamerica Region; however, despite the lack of resources, the Church of the Nazarene continues to grow because it is the country with the membership in the region. Pray for leaders and congregations that the passion for lost souls may remain.
Meso Central Field
• Pray for leadership in the Meso Central Field, especially the Dominican Republic. René Acosta died in the month of October; he served as coordinator of ministries in that country.
• Pray also for leadership in Cuba. One CCO attended by 61 people was made recently, who are committed to bring the word of God to every place in that country.
• Last year the Church of the Nazarene was inaugurated in Guangandi (Region Kunayala) in Panama. Pray for the pastor and the congregation at that location.
Caribbean Field
• In September last year, the Church of the Nazarene was legally registered on the island of Curacao. We thank God for the Brash family, volunteer missionaries, who supported the planting of the church, which is being shepherded by Jonathan and Lisette Petrus.
GENESIS INITIATIVE
• Pray for the start of ministries and churches in 28 places of the Mesoamerica Region, 24 of them have a current presence of the church but should be strengthened to be urban areas, and three of them are where the Nazarene Church is not yet involved.
• Currently, through this initiative, we are working to advance the Church of the Nazarene in Veracruz, Mexico, San Pedro Sula, Honduras, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and Curacao.
• Pray for volunteer missionaries serving in these cities and continue to encourage congregations to support them in prayer and financial resources.
South America
• Pray for “Living the Great Commission,” 123 churches that are engaged in holistic ministry. Praying for the 123 pastors to be renewed, and multiply 10 percent of their growth, train 3,500 lay people in ministry for April of 2017.
• Pray for the new leadership in Brazil for the transition on the new setting of leadership in Brazil.
• Pray for the analysis of the logistics of the campus of the Regional Office.
• Pray for the new strategy of communications in the South America Region. • Pray for David Gonzalez as he leads the country, district, and local ministry coordinators. United States/Canada
• Pray that God will send a revival of holy love to each of the 5,069 churches in the United States and Canada.
• Pray that each of our churches will experience vibrant renewal inside the Body and that renewal will lead to a new passion for reaching the lost and hurting of our communities. • Pray that every USA/Canada Church of the Nazarene will be known as a body of loving people so people in need will know they can find help among us.
• Pray that Nazarenes in the United States and Canada will continue to have a spirit of generosity.
• Pray that pastors will continue to preach the message of holiness with clarity and power and that people listening will hunger and thirst for righteousness.
• Pray that churches will find new ways of bringing their children, youth, and adults together in intergenerational worship and service and that new mentoring relationships will develop.
