The Rev. Donald D. Hines, 90, Topeka, a retired clergy member of the Great Plains United Methodist Conference passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016. Rev. Hines was born April 10, 1925 in Eckley, Colorado the son of Calvin and Alpha Ora Hines.
He graduated from Yuma High School in Yuma, CO, York College in York, NE, and Bonebrake Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. He served E.U.B. churches in Esbon, McCracken, Maize, and Concordia; and Methodist churches in Russell, Shawnee Heights, Parsons First, Topeka Lowman and Fairway Old Mission, Emporia-Manhattan District Superintendent, retiring in 1990.
Reverend Hines married Thelma Rockhold on May 31, 1944 in York, NE. She died June 30, 2009. Survivor includes son, Gary Hines, Raytown, MO. He was also preceded in death by daughter, Sandra Rekstad.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Lowman United Methodist Church, 4000 SW Drury Ln, Topeka, Kansas. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Reverend Hines will lie in state from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, Kansas.
