On Saturday, May 7 from 2-5 PM Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Carlsbad, alongside our partners Church World Service, UURISE, and the North County Immigration Task Force will be hosting a gathering to discuss growing the Sanctuary network in North County. Noel Anderson, the National Grass Roots Coordinator with Church World Service, Pastor Ken Heintzelman of Shadow Rock UCC in Phoenix and Misael Perez who spent 110 days in sanctuary there will be joining us to share their spiritual journeys within Sanctuary. It’s also possible that Rosa Robles, who spent a year and almost four months in sanctuary at Southside Presbyterian in Tucson may be able to join us.
Please come and see how you can support immigrants by becoming a host or support congregation, or to learn more about the Sanctuary Movement by those who have been impacted. The attached flyer gives the details of the event. Please share it with your network.
As you know, this is a long, tough fight. We don’t know what decision the Supreme Court will make, but we know that right now in our own communities there are people who are unfairly threatened with deportation and the painful break up of their families. In the absence of comprehensive immigration reform we feel called to respond proactively and to begin building a network in North County so that when we get the call, we are prepared to answer. Please pass this on to your contacts within the faith community and invite folks in your congregation to attend. We also welcome the participation of immigration attorneys, non-profits and individuals who might want to partner on this effort.
In hope and solidarity,
