Pastor Penny Ellwood's eNote from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs in Blue Springs, Missouri, United States for Friday, 27 May 2016

Resurrection Blue Springs,
What a beautiful morning to start off our Memorial Weekend and the beginning of a new season. It's hard to believe another school year has come and gone already! This weekend has always marked the beginning of summer for me, even though it's not officially here for another 24 days. I'm praying for all our families whose seniors will be graduating this weekend in Blue Springs. This is an important milestone and an entrance into a new season for you and your graduates too.
I always looked forward to the summertime when my kids were out of school. The downside was trying to contain the daily mess, which seemed to grow during the summer months with all their activities. In keeping with this thought and looking toward the remodeling plans for this summer, which will have us in some mess as we begin construction, we'll be starting a new summer series this Sunday entitled, "Living in the Mess." Sometimes we choose the messes we live in and other times they enter our lives unexpectedly. These unexpected messes can take the form of an illness, a job loss, an unexpected pregnancy, a child lost in addiction, just to name a few examples. How we deal with these messes in the light of our faith and what we learn from them are the important things to take away. This Sunday we'll be looking at these more serious messes and the gifts that can be found even in the midst of this mess. I will also have an update for you this Sunday on where we are with our remodeling plans.
This Sunday is a family worship Sunday so all our children ages 5 and up will be joining us in worship (childcare for 4 years and under will be available at all services). This gives our KiDSCOR leaders a break and parents an opportunity to worship with their children. We will have activity packets for all the kids and Diane Enlow, our Director of KiDSCOR will be offering a children's moment during worship. Make sure that you come early to worship to help support our Rezlife youth. They are providing breakfast prior to worship to raise funds for summer camp. They will start serving at 8:15 am and continue up to the 10:45 worship, so bring your kids and come early for pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee, and juice.
In addition to the new series, we begin our Destination Resurrection plans on Sunday too. Sunday evening we want to invite all of you who are in town to come out for the free summer concert at Rotary Park (600 NW Vesper St.). Resurrection Blue Springs is sponsoring this first concert of the summer series as a way to get our name out into the community. We'll be handing out blue frisbees with our church logo and hope you'll come wearing your Rez shirts to meet and greet the folks from our community. Our own Liv Ash will open up the evening at 6 pm and then the band Loose Change takes the stage. We'll have the large picnic shelter as the sponsor for this event so bring a picnic dinner and blankets or lawn chairs if you want a closer view and join us for a great evening of music, fellowship and fun.
Take a look at what else is coming up with our Destination Resurrection plans below....
Our church offices and buildings will be closed on Monday, May 30th, in observance of Memorial Day.
Memorial Sunday rezlife Pancake Breakfast - rezlife will be providing a Pancake breakfast on May 29 before the 9:00 and 10:45 am worship services. The youth will be serving pancakes, sausage, fruit, coffee, and juice starting around 8:15, and ending before the 10:45 service. Donations will help defray the cost for summer camp. Please invite friends and family to come eat with us and stay for worship afterwards.
Music in the Park – Join us for our first summer outing Sunday, May 29, 6-8 pm, at Rotary Park, 600 NW Vesper St., Blue Springs.
