Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant - 16 June 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West in Olathe, Kansas, United States for Thursday, 16 June 2016
Resurrection West,
I am writing you early because of a great need we have next week at our Vacation Bible Camp and Sports Camp. This will be our largest ever VBC with over 230 kids registered and also more than 130 kids registered for Sports Camp in the mornings. We still have some kids on a waiting list even! We need 3 more adult or teen leaders to step up to be able to welcome ALL the children to VBC from 1-5 pm next Monday through Friday. We are also in need of 1 adult or teen leader to help lead cheerleading on just Friday morning from 8:30 am-12 pm at Sports Camp. VBC is a life-changing event for so many kids, including myself. I was invited to VBC by another child when I was 4 years old. Our mothers connected on the playground and the next day I attended VBC at First United Methodist Church of Jasper, Florida. It changed my life and my entire family’s lives as we grew in faith and people poured into my life ultimately leading me into ordained ministry! I know there are 4 of you whom God is calling to serve right now! You will even have a co-leader beside you leading a group of 10. Please prayerfully consider this call and email Christie Walker, Director of KiDSCOR if you can serve at christie.walker@cor.org! You will not regret it!
What a moving week of signing prayers, scriptures, hopes, and visions on two steel beams measuring 20 feet in length inside our Sanctuary. They will be part of the structural system of the new permanent front door to our campus for generations. Every time we enter the church building we will walk beneath these prayers. I’ve attached some pics below of some of the prayers I’ve captured as I’ve been walking by them and praying each day this week. You still have time this Sunday to make your mark. After Sunday, the construction team will have to move them into the steel structure as it goes up. We have moved them over to the east wall to make room for Vacation Bible Camp beginning on Monday! You can also view the video I shared in worship last week of placing and praying over the rocks our children painted beneath the foundation of the new building on our Facebook page here.
On Sunday we will be celebrating Father’s Day and share the pics your sent in as a part of our worship experience. Pastor Adam kicks off a fun and enlightening new series about life lessons we learn from our dogs, and really all of our pets. This series will be a great series to invite your non-religious friends and family. It will be filled with humor, joy, and a deeper understanding of God’s love - along with some pretty cute pets!

KiDSCOR - Why Team Summer? During the school year, our children’s ministry welcomes over 300 kids every week. That’s 300 faces we get to lock eyes with, 300 hands we get to high-five, 300 names we call out in recognition, 300 hearts and minds that need to know they matter to God. For the 9 months of our school year, an army of 150 volunteers commit to serving children and families in this way each and every month. It’s our pleasure to give them a break during the summer to say thank you and provide a time of renewal. To continue to reach children, keep them safe and help them know the truth about who they are, a fresh summer volunteer team is vital. We invite you to walk alongside our children as they grow in their faith and as they ask important questions. You might just find yourself growing in your own faith as you serve. We’ll equip you with all you need to get started. Please sign up today atcor.org/west/teamsummer or contact christie.walker@cor.org.
Small Groups Forming – Email David.Robertson@cor.org to connect with a group. We have two groups forming right now: one group of retirees to meet every other Wednesday afternoon in group members’ homes and another for women in their 30s.

Resurrection West Sports Camp and Vacation Bible Camp, “Meet the Royals”! Two great opportunities for kids this summer, one amazing week of fun! Registration is now open for RezWest Sports Camp and RezWest VBC. Both camps will take place June 20-24; Sports camp (Basketball, Soccer, Flag Football & Cheerleading) will be held in the morning, followed by VBC “Meet the Royals” in the afternoon. Register for one or both of these events. A supervised “sack lunch” time will be held for those who participate in both activities. We hope to help hundreds of kids grow in faith, wisdom and friendship through these programs, so we will need many volunteers - youth and adults! All parents who volunteer for VBC and have children younger than kindergarten will be able to register their little ones in early childhood VBC or nursery. If you are interested in participating in or volunteering for either camp, please go to cor.org/west/VBC2016 for more information and registration.
Two Male Cabin Leaders Needed for Youthfront - 4th and 5th graders head to Youthfront Camp in July! Our July 6-9th group has the largest group of boys yet going to camp and we are in need of 2 male cabin volunteers. Volunteers assist a Youthfront staff person during the time at camp and ensure a safe space for campers by providing 2 unrelated adults in a cabin at all times. Cabin leaders must be 18 years of age or older and will be given proper background screening. Contact Christie.walker@cor.org if you or someone you know is interested!
Thursday LIVE! Register today for the women's summer study - Normal people are stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted. And when it comes to God, the majority believe in him, but the teachings of scripture rarely make it into their everyday lives. Simply put, normal isn’t working. Join us as we study Craig Groeschel’s book, “Weird, Because Normal Isn’t Working”. Class dates are July 7, 14, 21 and 28, meeting from 9:30-11:30am. Childcare is available with registration at cor.org/west/thursdaylive.
5th - 7th Grade Summer Mission Trip, July 11-15 - Join us for a week of serving others, growing closer to Christ and having a lot of fun! We are heading to Lawrence to serve through non-profits, including homeless ministries, housing projects, food/shelter non-profits and much more. Visit cor.org/west/studentsfor more information and click on the Events, Retreats & Missions tab for more information.
Holy Land Trip – Nov 14-23. Join Resurrection West pastor Jason Gant and Resurrection Blue Springs pastor Penny Elwood on this amazing 10-day tour, Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus. Information brochures are available at the RezWest front desk. Contact Debbie.Dietz@cor.org with questions.
Finally, my heart has been grieving all week at the devastating loss of life in Orlando. This despicable evil act that is so difficult to imagine has been challenged in amazing ways with love and healing throughout the Orlando community and the world! Many of you know that I served as youth pastor at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Orlando for six years before serving here at Resurrection. Every day since the attack I have witnessed members of my previous church, including many of my former students, step up to lead with the love and mercy of Christ. Join me in continued prayer for the family and friends of those who lost their lives and for those still in critical care. May God’s power and strength lift us all up in this great time of need!
In Christ's love,
Pastor Jason
