Pastor Penny Ellwood's eNote from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs in blue Springs, Missouri, United States for Friday, 2 September 2016
Friday, September 2, 2016
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
What a beautiful start to our Labor Day weekend! It's been a flurry of activity this week as the construction continues and our staff team gears up for the start of a new fall season of classes. Tonight is the first TGIF for children age 4 through 5th grade. Diane has a fun evening planned for the kids signed up. I've been looking over the materials for Disciple 2, which Bill and I are leading together, and I am anxious to dive into the book of Genesis with our group. I read that J. B. Phillips, a British scholar who penned a translation of the New Testament, once said that while laboring on his translation, it sometimes seemed as if he were working with bare wires on which the power had not been disconnected. As he studied the scriptures it literally came alive for him. This has always been my experience when I am entrenched in a study of the Bible. The word comes alive and I find connections to many different aspects of my daily life.
I'm excited to tell you that this week we posted a new position for a Student Ministry Program Director for our campus. Our youth numbers have continued to grow each year and we have need for a program director to come alongside our awesome team of volunteers to establish new ministry opportunities for our youth and help equip our volunteers. We had 29 students at our back to school pool party last Sunday night. If you know of a good candidate or have suggestions for where we might post this position, please let me know or pass the information along.
This Sunday we will continue our sermon series on Moses. We'll be exploring the story of how God instructed Moses and the Israelities to build the Tabernacle, their place of worship, and what it tells us about God's love and desire to share life with us. Bring your children to worship with you as this Sunday is a Family Worship. Childcare will still be available for infants through age 4. We'll also be welcoming new members from our Pizza with the Pastor last Sunday. We're excited to have two new families join the church; Travis and Jennifer Reeder (Cole, Nolan, Layne) and Jennifer Brokaw (Keagen, Bryleigh).
If you have the opportunity, you can see a life-sized display of the ancient tabernacle this weekend in the Leawood Campus Narthex. They will also have guided tours on Tuesday or Wednesday, Sept. 6 & 7 next week (allow 15-20 minutes).
Be sure to take a close look below at all the classes and activities we have starting soon to see if God is calling you to get further connected in study and in community. . . . . .
