Resurrection Blue Springs,
I hope you've had a chance to enjoy this beautiful week. I love this time of year when you can open the windows back up, there is a crisp chill in the morning air and the tops of the trees are just beginning to show a hint of color. I always feel this growing sense of excitement and anticipation as we wait for fall to explode with color. I have that same feeling about our church right now. With the completion of most of our renovation project, watching the community groups and classes fill the new spaces for the first time and seeing the energy bubbling around how we might invite our community in to experience worship, mission and service with us is so exciting. I have this sense that we're going to see the holy spirit burst forth in some amazing and unexpected ways in this next season of our church.
This was an exciting week for our whole church. This week the 2016 Leadership Institute has been in progress. Over 1800 church leaders from across the country have gathered together at Resurrection to grow, to be inspired and to share ideas for reviving the church, their ministries and the communites in which they serve. I was privileged last night to help lead the closing worship service. I was moved to tears to hear this crowd of pastors and leaders singing "I Love you Lord" in acapella. Their voices filled the entire room and then Bishop Will Willimon gave an amazing sermon on how the Holy Spirit can move in unusual and unexpected ways if we only open our eyes to the possibilities and opportunities present around us and show up.
I am so excited for you to have the chance to hear Bishop Willimon preach for us this Sunday in our worship services. Bishop Willimon is the author of more than 60 books and served as a dean and professor at Duke Divinity School before being elected bishop in the Birmingham Alabama area. He is an amazing preacher and you won't want to miss it. We'll also be sharing in holy communion this Sunday as we celebrate World Communion Sunday. Be sure to be there.
One last thing, I want to encourage you to attend the conversations happening tomorrow morning at our Downtown campus. Rev. Willis Johnson, pastor of Wellspring Church in Ferguson, MO and Rev. Scott Chrostek our downtown campus pastor will be leading a conversation with Resurrection and Centennial UMC members sharing our stories, fears and realizations around race. We'll learn what it means to "be an EMT" and to hold up our corner. This is a conversation that we want to get more involved with as a church so that we can hold up our corner. There are more details and information about registration below. I plan to hear Rev. Willis this afternoon in a post session of Leadership Institute. I'll be anxious to have more conversation with you all about it afterwards.
Be sure to take a close look at all the upcoming events and activities coming up. . .

The ride begins at 9 am, making several stops along its 60-mile circuit and ends around noon back at Zarda’s. Zarda’s will provide BBQ sliders for lunch.
