Resurrection West,
My thoughts and prayers are with the families of Srinivas Kuchibhotla, Alok Madasani, and Ian Grillot this morning. Sadly Srinivas lost his life after the terrible and tragic shooting this past week here in Olathe. Alok and Ian are in recovery. Ian stood up against the alleged shooter as he spewed racial slurs against these two men and later even risked his life to stop him. Alok had an opportunity to thank Ian and shared that his wife is five months pregnant. Ian Grillot was quoted in saying, “I was just doing what anyone would have done. It’s not about where he was from or his ethnicity, we are all humans, so I felt what was naturally right to do.” May his courage strengthen each of us to do what is right in the face of evil and may we see opportunities here to speak and act for peace and unity. I have already seen our community coming together in so many ways across social media to care for these victims and their families. Makes me proud to live and serve God here in Olathe. I want to encourage you to use the hashtag #olatheproud as we see opportunities to be light and life for Christ, pushing back the darkness!
This Sunday we will continue in the series entitled ‘When I Grow Up’ learning two more key markers of spiritual mentorship. These markers can be applied to anyone you may have influence over, especially in parenting. Last week we looked at the first two key markers. They are 1) Mentors Care (with intention) and 2) Mentors Guide (by example). This week we will look at two more and also hear more insight and testimony from the different groups we interviewed and a beautiful story of one of our 90-year old grandmothers and the affect she’s having on her granddaughter, and now great granddaughter! By the way, if you missed the sermon, the sermon video is always posted on our Facebook page here, and also archived in our sermon archive by clicking here. In last Sunday’s sermon, I shared a powerful story where I’d witnessed these first two key markers lived out in the band director at the Mission Trail Middle School band concert last year. I can’t wait to share what happened to me after the 11am service last Sunday!
It’s bittersweet to announce that Ryan Rancudo has accepted a new job offer this week and will be stepping down as Assistant Director of Worship. His new position will allow him more time to pursue his personal music career with his band CUDO. Please join me in thanking Ryan for his service to God here at Resurrection West. His last Sunday will be March 5th.

Finally, last night was a great joy as I spent the evening leading a rehearsal for a wedding this Saturday. It will be my privilege to officiate a number of weddings over the next few weeks and months and this is always such a joyous occasion. May God bless these unions and their marriages for a lifetime!
