Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, February 24, 2017 of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Greetings RezDowntowners,
It is awesome to be writing you today, and at the same time I cannot believe that it’s Friday already. I feel like these weeks are flying by. It has been another great week in the life of our church and I am so excited about where we’re heading. This weekend in worship we’re going to continue in our sermon series on Breaking Ground: Reclaiming the foundations of our faith. I’ll be focusing in on the greatest commandment and the second just like it. It will be an opportunity to focus our attention again upon the cross as we seek together to live cruciform (cross-shaped) lives just like Christ. I hope you’ll be there to join me in worship.
This weekend, I’ll also be sharing in person the date for our forthcoming groundbreaking as we anticipate building the first new church in downtown Kansas City in over 80 years, and I want you to be there so that you don’t miss out. I share this information not so that we can be rejoicing or boasting about what’s going on at Resurrection Downtown. I share this simply so that we don’t miss experiencing God’s presence and power in rare fashion. What God is doing in downtown Kansas City is pretty exciting. Something like this hasn’t happened in the center of this city for a really long period of time, and I'm not just talking about Kansas City, but in city centers all across the country. In a few more weeks God will begin planting a new church in the heart of the city, and I want you to be there to be a part of this great opportunity to celebrate and worship God through whom we are able to accomplish abundantly far more than we can think to ask for or imagine. Friends, this is just the beginning.
This weekend, in addition to our services at our McGee location on Saturday and Sunday, I want to encourage you to worship with me at our Grand location at 10:45am if you are able. I will be preaching live at 1508 Grand this weekend and I would love to see you. If you haven’t experienced it as of yet, this is the perfect weekend to do so! Until then, please know how grateful I am for you and I’m excited to celebrate the good news with you as together we reclaim the foundations of our faith!
In the meantime, here are several opportunities for connection within the life of our church:
Transforming the Heart of the City: An informational gathering with Pastor Scott. On, Sunday, Feb 26th, at 6:30pm, come out to join Pastor Scott as he shares the most up to date information about the building and how you can still participate in building its foundation. This short gathering will allow you to see the building plans and hear about all the ways we are continuing to build community in the heart of the city as well as how you can be involved. If you weren’t a part of our Transforming the Heart of the City series last year or if you haven’t had a chance to hear about what’s happening over the next few years, then we don’t want you to miss out on this opportunity. It’s not that often that one gets a chance to be part of building the first church in downtown Kansas City in over 80 years but in taking part of our mission to change lives and be a blessing to the very city where we work, live and worship! For questions, contact Kelly.Sisney@cor.org.
Ash Wednesday Worship: Wednesday, March 1st, 7 pm at 1522 McGee
Join us Ash Wednesday for a special service that includes music, prayers, an inspiring message and the opportunity for personal reflection and confession. Ash Wednesday emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before God and our human mortality — both triumphed through the death and resurrection of Jesus! KiDS COR will be provided.
Travel to the Holy Land with Pastor Scott. On November 8-17 Pastor Scott will lead a spiritual journey of a lifetime to the Holy Land. On this pilgrimage you’ll have a chance to retrace the life and walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. You’ll have a chance to visit the cities and sites we read about in the Bible. It is something we recommend everybody experiences if at all possible. For more information visit Connection Point this weekend to pick up an informational brochure before or after worship. To register or for more info, visit cor.org/downtown/events.
Matthew’s Ministry Family Day Out Downtown – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Join us Sunday, March 5, at 1 pm as individuals of all ages with special needs and their siblings enjoy a fun-filled day of crafts, activities and fellowship while parents and caregivers take an afternoon for themselves. Parents/caregivers are welcome, but not required, to stay the first half hour or the full time to help loved ones get acclimated and comfortable with the environment. This is an open event to the community; you don’t have to be a member of the church to participate. Registration deadline is Wednesday, March 1. For more information, to volunteer or to register, contact Hannah.Murray@cor.org.
CityWide Easter Egg Hunt: We’re “hunting” for help!! We are about one month away from the City Wide Easter Egg Hunt at Liberty Memorial. If you love to plan things, have super organizational skills, or just love to help out with kids… come join in an evening of planning and organizing for the Easter Egg Hunt 2017 on Tuesday, March 7 at 6:30pm at the Grand Building. RSVP to Sarah.brischle@cor.org. It will be a time to dream, develop and discuss the Easter Egg Hunt all while enjoying some dinner together. Come be a part of one of the best events that happens in the spring!
Men’s Spiritual Retreat (Leawood) “God in Three Persons: Blessed Trinity”
Friday | March 3 | 6:30-9 pm, Saturday | March 4 | 8:30 am – noon
The Christian faith celebrates the belief that God is revealed in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Join us in the Student Center as Rev. Jeff Kirby, Rev.
