Lent Begins Tomorrow, with Ash Wednesday
Between now and Easter, I invite you to spend time with some of the basic, big ideas of our Christian faith. At church, we'll be focusing on six phrases from the Apostles' Creed, as we consider what it means to believe today. This six-week series is much more than an opportunity to learn about some of the core teachings of our faith tradition--it is also a chance to consider what difference our believing makes for our living.
During this season of Lent, the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter, we focus extra attention toward our faith lives. Instead of giving up something for Lent, I hope you will take up some extra study and conversations about what you believe.
To help, we are using a study book--Creed: What Christians Believe and Why, by Adam Hamilton. You can order one online, or buy one from the church office for $15.
We also have six different small groups available, at different times of the week, in homes and other settings. These groups will use the ideas from the book, along with short videos from the author and questions for conversation. Now is the time to sign up to join one, by email to the office.
Sunday afternoons (starting March 12) Noon-1:00 at Veterans Park. Children welcome, hosted by Dawn Kirkemo.
Monday evenings (starting March 6) 6:30-8 PM this YOUTH ONLY group meets at the home of Brad Taylor in Lawndale.

Wednesday mornings (starting March 8) 10:30-11:30am at the home of Helen Stockwell (North Redondo)

As much as ever, I find myself needing to remember who I am, and to regain focus on what a difference my belief makes for me. I think this study can be an antidote to political polarization and fear! As we live in a religiously diverse world, this is a chance to remember what we believe most deeply, and let it guide me in living graciously with others. I hope you'll join me for the conversation.
Pastor Molly
My deep thanks to Rev. Nicole Reilley, who helped train and prepare our congregation's leaders for this study, and who is leading a small group herself!
Ash Wednesday Worship
We have two opportunities for you to pray and receive ashes tomorrow, as we begin Lent. (Read more about Ash Wednesday here.)
In the evening at 7:30pm, we will join with other local churches in a combined worship service at Faith UMC in Torrance. Rev. Lynette Fuka from St. Paul's UMC in Redondo Beach will be preaching. See more here.
Between 4:30-5:30pm, Pastor Molly will be available in our sanctuary for prayers and imposition of ashes. Come anytime during that hour to share a short prayer together.
Help us spread the word--forward this invitation to your friends and neighbors!
