Dr. Emanuel Cleaver III and the Leadership Board invites the entire congregation to participate in the Quarterly State Of The Church meeting tomorrow April 22 at 10 a.m. in the Ministry Mall.

Sunday worship. Dr. Emanuel Cleaver III will be preaching "The 9 Life-enhancing Virtues" - Galatians 5:22-23, Sunday at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Paseo Campus and 10 a.m. at the Renaissance Campus.
Wednesday Night Live. Join us Wednesday, April 26 at 7 p.m. in the Ministry Mall for our continuing exploration of the Bible from Genesis to Revelations. Led by Dr. 3 and the Pastoral Team, we wrestle with what the bible says, the cultural context, people, places of the time and what it means for us today. Please read Genesis 37-41, for this weeks Bible study.
WORSHIP MINISTRIES

Little Vessel Ushers and Youth Ushers. Children ages 5-11 and youth ages 12-18 serve as ushers every 3rd Sunday during 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship. No experience needed - on the job training is provided. The uniform is a white button down shirt and black slacks or skirt. FAITH DEVELOPMENT
Prayer Class. Every 4th Sunday, learn how to build your prayer skills and broaden your personal faith development with Helen Walker in the Vaughn Chapel on April 23, 2017 at 9:45 a.m.
Couples Class. This Sunday School class for married and engaged couples meet Sundays @ 9:45 a.m in Room 2D. We're reading Anger: Taming a Powerful Emotion, by Dr. Gary Chapman. This series will help you and your spouse experience and respond to anger in a way that pleases the Lord AND help prevent conflict, resentment and unforgiveness in your relationship. Journey Growth Group. Sundays @ 9:45 a.m. in room 2E on the second floor. Has God put something on your heart to do or accomplish? Are you struggling with where you are in your life? Come join our Journey class and learn different techniques to hold yourself accountable for God's vision in your life. You will learn, step by step, how to build a Journey board and watch GOD's grace work through you. Supplies needed to participate: poster board, index cards and a Bible. Bible Study at Renaissance. Join us Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. for Bible study at the Renaissance Campus. There is food, fellowship and the Word. Come out and grow with your church family!
Senior Fitness & Bible Study. Join us at the Paseo Campus every Wednesday from 11-11:30 a.m. for light to moderate exercise done from the comfort of a chair! A trained fitness expert will guide you through exercises that help strengthen you, and the fellowship will help motivate you. Then, stay for Senior Bible Study from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and get strengthened in the spirit! Feel free to bring a dish and join us in the potluck lunch following our study time.

Christian sympathy is extended to Faye Brewster and Cheryl Hawkins, and Verlene Lewis (Lamar) at the passing of their mother and aunt Prenthia Carter; and to Clararice Dandrige at the passing of his uncle Colonel Matthew H. Peach; and Ronald Celestine (Carolyn) at the passing of his sister Marcia Lacey.
GriefShare. No matter what the circumstances, grief recovery is a painful process. St. James is offering support during this process with our GriefShare recovery seminar and support group. We will work together on your journey from mourning to joy. St. James UMC Usher Boards 27th Annual Prayer Breakfast. The St. James United Usher Boards will host their 27th Annual Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, April 29, in the Fellowship Hall. Vocal Praises to God through Jesus Christ by Deborah Davis and Jason Goodman. A donation of $10 per person is asked; but no one will be turned away - Please ask any usher for details.
Most Powerful Voices Concert. The St. James UMC Health Ministry in cooperation with the American Stroke/American Heart Association will be host to the Most Powerful Voices concert on Friday, May 5, 2017 featuring VaShawn Mitchell and Byron Cage. Passports, Hands Only CPR, D.A.S.H. diet instructions will be available to those who attend the mini-health fair station. Volunteers are also needed. St. James UMC Care and Nurture Ministry Hosts "Safety First" A workshop designed to provide information to develop the awareness and skills to enhance personal and home safety the presenter will be Officer Gary Knapp of the Kansas City, MO Police Department, Saturday, May 6 @ 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Ages 13 and under cannot attend and Ages 14 - 17 must come with an adult. ~ Continental Breakfast Served ~ Pre-Registration contact the church office at 816-444-5588.
Men's Retreat. Faith, Food, Fellowship and Fun hosted by the St. James UMC Men's Ministry from May 12 at 6 p.m. till May 13 at noon at Three Trails Camp and Retreat Center 16200 East US Highway 40 in Kansas City, MO 64136. $25 per person which includes lodging (1 night), dinner and breakfast. Bowling League. Starting up again May 9, on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at Premier Bowling Alley (11400 E 350 HWY Raytown MO 64139). The league starts on Tuesday, May 16, at 6 p.m. and is open to all, so if you or someone you know likes to bowl this league is perfect for honing your skills. If you don't have your own bowling gear for the league, the bowling alley provides bowling balls and shoes. All proceeds are donated to the church. Connectors Needed. Volunteers are needed to assist at the Welcome Center each Sunday. Duties include assisting with electronic giving, registration for church events and activities, providing information, etc. Connectors at 8 a.m. worship are asked to serve from 7:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. Connectors at 11 a.m. worship are asked to serve from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Volunteer once each quarter or as your schedule allows. NEXT GENERATION MINISTRIES
40-140. We are sharing in a season of spiritual practices this year by leading students through 40 days of practices to follow in engaging with God. We will also offer 40-140 again, which is 40 days of devotional readings no more than 140 characters long. Please make sure you have registered for the 40-140 text messages by texting "rage" to 40650.
Scouting Ministry
Cub Scouts (Grades 1-5) will meet every 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Kidz Kingdom.

United Methodist Women - The Catherine A. Davis Memorial Book Scholarship is available to a young African American female who is a member of St. James United Methodist Church and is a 2017 graduating senior. All applications must be submitted to the United Methodist Women Scholarship Award Committee, c/o Carolyn Celestine. Bessie L. Thompson Fleming Scholarship - Applications are now being taken for the Bessie a Thompson Fleming Nursing Scholarship. St. James United Methodist Church Membership Scholarship - The membership scholarship is open to any graduating high school senior of St. James United Methodist Church who is beginning a post-secondary education (university, college, certification, professional training) in the 2016-2017 academic year. Mr. Bill Johnson Youth Scholarship* - The scholarship is open to current active high school members who have displayed their commitment to being servant-leaders at St. James United Methodist Church based on their spiritual commitment. Recipients are selected based upon academic excellence, and active participation in church ministry. All application must be postmarked by June 1, 2017. COMMUNITY NEWS
Invitation/ Save the Date. There will be a benefit concert Saturday April 22, at 2 p.m. at St. Therese Church Little Flower Church on 5814 Euclid, Kansas City. The St. Therese Gospel Choir, Hogan Community Drum Line, St. Peters Folk Ensemble, are just a few of the entertainers that will be on the program. The proceeds will benefit the Community outreach of the HOPE (Helping Our People Everywhere) committee. Refreshments will be served after the concert in the Parish Hall. Free Will Donation.
Royals Game. Sunday, May 7, 2017, 1:15 p.m. Tickets are still available but going fast! We invite you to continue what we started at the St. James/COR Forums, building relationships between our congregations while cheering on the Royals and celebrating a Salute to the Negro Leagues on 'Dressed to the Nines' day at the park. Fans are encouraged to come "Dressed to the Nines" to honor the tradition of fans going to Negro Leagues games in their "Sunday best" or wear KC Monarchs or Royals attire. Seats are limited so, registration is required. Registration is open until tickets are sold out. Come cheer on the Royals as they take on the Cleveland Indians.
