Hi RezDowntowners,
I hope you are doing well this morning. It’s hard to believe we are at the end of another week already, and yet here we are at the end of April! Time seems to be flying. The theme this weekend between worship, activities and offerings is going to be happiness in relationships. This weekend in worship we are going to be shirting our focus to uncovering the ‘Keys to a Happily Ever After.’ We’ll be discussing the power and importance of the most committed relationships in our lives and how we can make our love last a lifetime. It will be a great weekend in worship as we continue our series on The Birds and the Bees through the lens of marriage. Please invite friends to join you as this will be a ‘don’t miss’ kind of message and weekend!
In addition to worship this weekend, we are so excited to be hosting a great community conversation on ‘Boundaries in Relationships.’ On Saturday morning Pastor Anne Williams and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Sherry Danner will be leading a conversation that will explore how to maintain healthy boundaries by knowing when to compromise, when to stand your ground and how to manage the give-and-take of relationships so that we stay true to ourselves, while also loving sacrificially. Please register at cor.org/downtown/getconnected or if you have questions please be sure to email Matt.Bisel@cor.org.
Finally, later this morning be sure to tune into KCTV5 for Better Kansas City, as I’ll be making another appearance to share some relationship advice on ‘Resetting your Marriage.’ The show begins at 9am and I’ll be appearing at the top of the hour!
I can’t wait to see you all in worship this weekend and I’m excited to spend another week with you focusing on The Birds and The Bees! In the meantime, here are several more ways to get connected to the life of our church…
Listen to My Life – Join us May 4-6, at 1508 Grand: Thursday and Friday, 6-9 pm; Saturday, 9 am – 2 pm. Back by popular demand, this women’s study uses coaching questions and life purpose principles along with historical Christian spiritual practices to help you discover God’s hand in your life story. The class fee is $60 for all materials and meals, partial scholarships available. With questions, visit cor.org/downtown/getconnected.
Caregivers Group – The caregivers group gathers next on Tuesday, May 2 at 6:30 am in the coffee shop at 1522 McGee. With questions, contact Kris Drummond at kdrummond6@gmail.com.
First Friday Cookie Giveaway! On May 5, bless others with cookies. Enjoy First Fridays, walk around looking at the art in the Crossroads District and be out with folks in the community. One way Resurrection attempts to be a part of the neighborhood is to hand out cookies from the Sonflower Bakery. Would you like to be a part of the fun? Pick up a bag of cookies on Friday at about 6 pm, then head wherever you would like in the Crossroads. Usually you will be done with a bag in less than 30 minutes! If you would enjoy taking part in this activity, please contact Kelly.Sisney@cor.org.
Matthew’s Ministry Family Day Out Downtown – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Join us Sunday, May 7, at 1 pm as individuals of all ages with special needs and their siblings enjoy a fun-filled day of crafts, activities and fellowship while parents and caregivers take an afternoon for themselves. Parents/caregivers are welcome, but not required, to stay the first half hour or the full time to help loved ones get acclimated and comfortable with the environment. This is an open event to the community; you don’t have to be a member of the church to participate. Registration deadline is Wednesday, May 5. For more information, to volunteer or to register, contact Hannah.Murray@cor.org.
Dinners for 8 Spring Fellowship - If you're looking to meet others in our community, check your calendars for Thurs, May 18 or Fri, May 19. Ten couples are excited to welcome others for a dinner hosted either in their home or at a local restaurant. After worship services May 6 & 7, you will have an opportunity to sign up. Sign-up sheets will provide you with details about your hosts, the dinner they are planning, individual costs or donations requested (if any), location, time of the dinner & information regarding financial assistance, if needed. Questions? Please contact the Dinner for 8 organizer, Margaret Glasch, mrglasch@gmail.com or (612) 501-6141.
Travel to the Holy Land with Pastor Scott. On November 8 through the 17th I'll be leading a spiritual journey of a lifetime to the Holy Land. On this pilgrimage you’ll have a chance to retrace the life and walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. You’ll have a chance to visit the cities and sites we read about in the Bible. It is something we recommend everybody experiences if at all possible. For more information visit Connection Point this weekend to pick up an informational brochure before or after worship. To register or for more info, visit cor.org/downtown/events.
I am so thankful to buidling Christian community with you here in Kansas City. It is a privilege to be on this journey with you! Have a great Friday and I'll see you this weekend in worship back at our locations on McGee and Grand as we talk about love and marriage!
Many blessings and God's Peace,
Scott
