"Wrath To Donkey Riders" by H. Lamar SmithThe empire is out to teach donkey riders a lesson. All it takes is the bigger weaponry of chariots and horses. But the God who hates war rode a donkey anyway. Jesus came to “take away the war-horses from Jerusalem,” i.e., city of Shalom. The world says, “You see where it got Him — crucified!” What they don’t see is that with love, He conquered and won; with love, He still does. What they don’t see is that His peaceable Kingdom is desperately needed in this world from sea to sea, even to the ends of the earth.
“Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the war-horses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.” (Zechariah 9:9-10 (NIV))

"Riding A Donkey" by H. Lamar Smith
Chariots were the war tanks of the ancient world. Every army coveted them. They had a great advantage over the foot soldier. Egypt had them in abundance, but they proved to be no advantage in God’s great rescue. Solomon accumulated horses and chariots, trusted in them and destroyed Israel. When God’s true King came, the Messiah, the Anointed One, He rode a donkey. It was God’s renunciation of a military solution to the problems of the world. So in preparation for Palm Sunday, the day of His Kingdom announcement, He sent His disciples looking for a donkey.

“Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” (Psalm 20:6-7 (NIV))
