The Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, June 22, 2018 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Greetings RezDowntowners,
Happy Friday. I cannot believe it is already Friday, as I feel like the weeks are just flying by. As I am planning to spend most of today planning for this weekend (our fourth weekend in our new space) I have been reflecting over our launch. For our first three weekends in the new space at 1601 Grand Boulevard. we have averaged over 1300 adults per weekend. This has been amazing. Thank you for worshiping with us, but more importantly, thank you for inviting people to join you in worship. You have made possible an amazing start in our new house of worship. On top of our increases in worship, we've had huge numbers of children across all ages and almost three times as many volunteers serving per service. It has been an extraordinary month and I want to thank you for stepping up and living into the culture of invitation that Jesus longs for us to embrace in order to fulfill the Great Commission and build Christian community here in the heart of this city.
I want to keep things going this weekend as we conclude our sermon series, Jesus & Me. I will be preaching live at Resurrection Downtown for all of our services and I'll be speaking into the story of Jesus and the Samaritan Woman at the Well. This is one of the most powerful stories in Scripture and I'm excited to share it with you. At the same time, this weekend our first high school mission trip sets out for the mountains of Tennessee to spend a week in service and community building. Please join me in praying for them. In the meantime, please know that we have lots going on this summer in the way of building community.
The RezDads will meet tomorrow, June 23, 10 a.m. at Dagg Park Water Park (701 East 21st Avenue, North Kansas City, Missouri 64116). This is a great event and opportunity to connect with other dads and RezDowntown families. The water park is free so just remember your swimsuit, sunscreen and snacks. If you have any questions, email Clay at clay.smith10@gmail.com! Hope to see you there.
Also, I want to be sure that you mark your calendars for next Saturday. RezDowntown will be hosting five different bands for the Middle of the Map Festival at our 1522 McGee location on June 30! Doors will open at 12:30 pm, and live music will start at 1 pm. Check out their web site for tickets, lineup and other information here.
Lastly, given our new space, I thought I'd take a moment to share with you some helpful "Did you know..." style bullet-points about the new building and some facilities and program changes. Please take a look below:
Did You Know...
  • Though we own the parking lot at 1601 Grand, we must keep it gated because we lease out parking spaces during the week.
  • Our pick-up and drop-off procedures at KiDSCOR have changed. We now ask parents to drop children off within the first 20 minutes of worship, and to hold off on picking them up until worship is complete. This allows for the best experience for every child in attendance! (In case of emergency, contact a staff person.)
  • We are still looking for weekend volunteers, especially Parking Lot Greeters, Ushers and KiDSCOR!
  • For all worship services and events, Resurrection Downtown parking lots and doors open 30 minutes prior to start time.
  • We appreciate you! YOU are the reason Resurrection Downtown is a great place to worship and servethe community!
I am grateful for you and I'm so excited to be able to serve Christ with you here in the city. I hope you will invite your friends and coworkers (maybe even family) to come and see what's going on at REZDT this weekend as I conclude our first sermon series in our new space, focusing on the power of redemption in the story Jesus and the Woman at the Well.
Until then, have a great and God-filled Friday!
With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,
Scott
