Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs!
Our first Open Mic night was a success on Tuesday. It was a fun opportunity for us to be out in the community together and the music was great. I heard the owner of Sinclairs restaurant asking a table nearby if they were from our church. They said no and he went on to tell them who the musicians were and how we had been holding a bible study class there on Sunday mornings. It was a little evangelism moment and a perfect illustration of why we need to do more of this kind of thing!
When I left the church last night Vacation Bible Camp was in full swing and the kids were learning the key precept for their next four days together. A precept is a command or principle intended especially as a general rule of action. Precepts are a concept introduced in the movie Wonder, which formed the basis of this year’s VBC and will be the first film we dive into in our Gospel in Film series starting this Sunday.
Over the next four weeks, we’ll be exploring the gospel themes found in four of the major movie blockbusters of the last year. Our first film, Wonder, tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial deformities who enters mainstream elementary school for the first time in fifth grade. You can imagine the challenges he must overcome. You’re invited to join our VBC families to watch the movie tonight at 6 pm in the sanctuary and then come explore the gospel themes with me on Sunday morning. We’ll provide the popcorn!
I want to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who completed the work on our new toddler playground this week just in time for VBC and its culminating Family Picnic this Sunday. There's a picture below but you can see it for yourself and your kiddos can try it out this Sunday after worship when we gather for hotdogs, ice cream treats and water fun on the back lawn after our second service. Everyone is invited to come. You might bring a lawn chair or blanket. A towel too, if you want to join the water fun.
This series and the fun on Sunday are a perfect opportunity to invite a friend or family member to join us.
I look forward to seeing you!
Pastor Penny
