Gateway Church Family,
One of my favorite parts about David (from the Old Testament) is his honest prayers found in the Psalms. David prayed some really honest prayers. I was reading this morning from Psalm 86 in which David just pours his heart out to God. He says in Psalm 86:1 – “Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.” Not just in Psalm 86 but you can find great honesty in all of David’s Palms. He was a man who sought to be open and transparent before God through the prayers of the Psalms. This past Sunday we continued our sermon series on prayer. And through this series we are seeking to understand prayer better. For today’s devotional piece I want to ask you a simple question regarding your prayer life. Are you being open and honest before God when you pray? So many times, we try to hide who we really are before our God. However, this is impossible. God sees right past our words and into our hearts.
God can handle your honesty. If you are struggling, then tell Him you are struggling. If you are happy, then tell Him you are happy. If you are broken, then tell Him you are broken. If you are lonely, then tell Him you are lonely. If you are tired, then tell Him you are tired. God wants us as His people to be open and honest before Him.
I want to challenge you this week to seek to be more transparent before God in prayer. God knows everything about you anyway, you might as well tell Him what you are dealing with.
Take hope in the fact that the God of all creation can handle your honesty. Get open and honest before Him this week as you pray!
I hope you have an awesome day and week.
God bless!
Pastor Kevin
