Thoughts From Our Pastors
Hey it's Pastor Jeremy and welcome to our newsletters devotional. I will try to keep this one short for everyone. I also promise to add something cool at the end (a music video). So today I was listening to my Google music app and a song came on that really touched me and made me think of scripture. It is funny how songs have the power to change your moods and thoughts. You can be driving along thinking one thing, and a song comes on and completely change your thinking. The words of this particular song by Hillsong made me think about the scripture when Jesus had authority over the storm.
In Mark 4 Jesus and his disciples are in a boat and they're just about to cross the sea. In verse 37 it says this. "A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion." I love that picture, that even in the most furious of storms, Jesus is at peace and he's at rest.
I think that's because He knows the authority that He has over even the most serious storm. In verse 39 it says "He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
The song I was listening to is called 'In Control', it speaks to the fact that even when it seems that everything is out of control, we have the assurance that Jesus is in control, that He has authority over all things. It is the same as with this scripture. So often we try to do things the way we want, but Jesus is saying just give me control. Let me work in your life and change you to be more like me. So that's my prayer for us, that we’d find encouragement in the fact that Jesus has our back, that even the wind and waves obey Him, so we can put our trust in Him knowing that He is good and faithful.
Now that you have read the devotional, take 5 minutes and listen to the song below. It is amazing. Also remember to check back next week for our next newsletter and devotional thought.
Here is the song I promised.
