Water's Edge Congregation at FUMCSD - Friday, 21 February 2014 - Potluck in the Cove this Sunday - E-Notes from Water's Edge

Water's Edge Congregation at FUMCSD - Friday, 21 February 2014 - Potluck in the Cove this Sunday - E-Notes from Water's Edge
The Water's Edge Congregation is a modern, inter-generational service at First United Methodist Church in Mission Valley, San Diego. We meet in the "Cove" (directions) Sundays, 9:30 AM under the leadership of Pastor Elbert Kim and the Water's Edge band, led by Chris Durrand.
"Who is my neighbor?"
On Monday of this week, the Bishop of our Annual Conference was arrested in Washington D.C. for speaking out against the immigration policies of our nation. As the number of those deported from our soil reaches two million within the next few months, Bishop Carcaño and other religious leaders went to our nation's capital and stood in front of the White House on Presidents' Day to call for a complete reform of our current immigration laws. She also challenges the church to be in ministry in welcoming strangers, aliens, and neighbors.
This Sunday, as we look at the well-known Parable of the Good Samaritan, Luke 10:25-37, we ask ourselves who are our neighbors?
A fine boundary separated the Jews from the Samaritans, even though they came from a common heritage and believed in the same God. As we read this passage, what lessons do we learn about treating others?  How open and welcoming of strangers are we?
Join me this Sunday as we read this familiar parable with new eyes that calls us to be in ministry with one another.
Blessings,
Pastor Elbert
Sunday Potluck & February birthday celebrations!
You know it's going to be good...
Elbert has promised to bring the cake this month. Hope you'll join us after the service this Sunday, have a bite to eat and drink.Take a moment to meet some new friends in our Water's Edge community.
Please bring some food or drink to share but remember that even if you should forget, there will always be plenty to go around.
Anxious Sunday...
What does it mean?
Our Water's Edge band and some other musicians have recorded their first CD with original songs of worship by Chris Durrand. It has been a long time in the making, and now it's finally ready and will be released in the next few weeks. Until then, we want you to check out and LIKE their new Facebook page: anxious.sunday
Still not sure what Anxious Sunday stand for, but we'll have Chris explain that later. We are anxiously waiting.
