Gainesville, Florida, United States - Trinity United Methodist Church's Daily Scripture - Devotion for Ash Wednesday, 5 March 2014 "FORTY DAYS"
SCRIPTURE: Then Moses entered the cloud as he went up on the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.--EXODUS 24:18
Forty days of preparation.  It's a good thing, going back to Moses, and used by Jesus. For Moses, it was to prepare him for worship, for receiving the instructions for the tabernacle (6 chapters worth!). For Jesus it was preparations for His life's calling, for all that was ahead.
What will it be for you as you enter this 40 day time of preparation?  For that's what Lent is, a season of preparation.  The devotionals for the next 40 days are prayerfully intended to do just that - prepare us for what God has next for us.  The theme is "Reflections on Jesus," which is the best possible preparation any of us can do, for we become like that on which we focus our attention.  So my prayer for you and for me is that we will become more and more like Jesus during this 40 days Lenten season.
Let's open ourselves to the Spirit of God to work deeply within us and among us.
PRAYER: As Moses and Jesus and countless Pilgrims before us used 40 days time to prepare, so also, dear God, meet with us each of these days to shape us more fully into the image of your Son. AMEN by Dan Johnson
