Reflecting God – Embrace Holy Living - “A Song in Your Heart” - Sunday,
2 March 2014 – Scripture – Psalm 104: 24 Yahweh, how many are your works!
In wisdom have you
made them all.
The earth is full of
your riches.
25 There is the sea, great and wide,
in which are
innumerable living things,
both small and large
animals.
26 There the ships go,
and leviathan, whom
you formed to play there.
27 These all wait for you,
that you may give them
their food in due season.
28 You give to them; they gather.
You open your hand;
they are satisfied with good.
29 You hide your face: they are troubled;
you take away their
breath: they die, and return to the dust.
30 You send out your Spirit and they are created.
You renew the face of
the ground.
31 Let Yahweh’s glory endure forever.
Let Yahweh rejoice in
his works.
32 He looks at the earth, and it trembles.
He touches the
mountains, and they smoke.
33 I will sing to Yahweh as long as I live.
I will sing praise to
my God while I have any being.
34 Let your meditation be sweet to him.
I will rejoice in Yahweh.
35 Let sinners be consumed out of the earth.
Let the wicked be no
more.
Bless Yahweh, my soul.
Praise Yah!
“A Song in Your Heart” by Duane C. Brush
There are times when only a song will do. To lift the mood, to
strengthen our resolve, and even to express our grief music often expresses
emotion in ways that words alone cannot. The writer of Psalm 104 was moved by
the greatness and wonder of creation to give praise to our Creator God.
Worshipful adoration seems to demand music.
David and the other early psalm writers lived in a world that
has nearly vanished today. Particularly for those who live in urban areas we
often live in isolation from nature. We walk on pavement, drive a climate
controlled automobile, we eat food others have grown, and view wild life in the
zoo. There are benefits to modern living, but often when we look out our
windows we see only the works of mankind. Those works may move us to
admiration, even appreciation, but they do not inspire worship. That belongs to
God alone.
What lifts our hearts to song? It may have been a while since we
have spontaneously sing our praise from a heart of grateful praise.
Nevertheless, isn’t it about time? Let me start, “I sing the mighty power of
God that made the mountains rise . . .” Come on, sing along!
Hymn for Today:
“I Sing the Mighty Power of God” by Isaac Watts
1. We sing the mighty power of God
that made the mountains rise,
that spread the flowing seas abroad
and built the lofty skies.
We sing the wisdom that ordained
the sun to rule the day;
the moon shines full at his command,
and all the stars obey.
2. We sing the goodness of the Lord
that filled the earth with food;
he formed the creatures with his word
and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how your wonders are displayed,
where'er we turn our eyes,
if we survey the ground we tread
or gaze upon the skies.
3. There's not a plant or flower below
but makes your glories known,
and clouds arise and tempests blow
by order from your throne;
while all that borrows life from you
is ever in your care,
and everywhere that we can be,
you, God, are present there.
Thought for Today:
“I sing, for I cannot be silent; His love is the theme of my
song” (“Redeemed” by Fanny Crosby).
Prayer Needs:
Many people in Tonga will come to know Jesus the Christ (Yeshua
the Messiah) and receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
