March 31st is the Deadline To Enroll For Health Insurance Under Affordable Care Act

Still don't have health insurance?
March 31 is the last day to enroll in new health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act. Once you have completed the enrollment process, you will have until April 25th to pay your premium and your insurance will be effective as of May 1st. If you do not enroll, you may be subject to federal penalties in 2015. You will also be missing out on the peace of mind and health benefits that health insurance provides.
If you miss this deadline, your next opportunity to enroll will be next fall, unless you have a change of circumstances such as marriage, a job loss or the birth of a child. However, enrollment for those eligible for Medi-Cal will continue to be available throughout the year.
There are many paths to enroll in Covered California health insurance plans and in Medi-Cal, including in-person assistance from thousands of Certified Insurance Agents, Certified Enrollment Counselors and county eligibility workers, as well as signing up online. Consumers can find the nearest in-person assisters by visiting the "Find Local Help" page at CoveredCA.com. 
Along with County Supervisor Ron Roberts, I am also hosting a community forum and resource fair about the Affordable Care Act on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 10 am to 1 pm at the Normal Heights Community Center. Specialists will be on hand to answer questions and enroll people in Covered California, Medi-Cal and Cal-Fresh (food stamps).
