How does this movie interact with my life? How does this Reel Life intersect Real Life?
I recently saw this movie, Monuments Men. I found this historical story about the rescue of monuments and artifacts during World War II, a unique story and compelling.
Museum curators and architects were deployed to retrieve art that was being taken as spoils of war.
During a choir tour to Europe in the late 1990’s, I was blessed to look upon the The Madonna of Bruges. This is a marble sculpture by Michelangelo of Mary with the infant Jesus that pre-WWII was in Bruge, Belgium. It was in Bruges that I was privileged to marvel at its beauty. It was there that I could ponder a Jesus almost ready to walk from his mother’s arms to take up his role. It was there that I was moved by Mary’s downcast eyes as if she knew her son’s weighty fate. I didn’t realize that this masterpiece was almost lost to the civilized world when removed by the Nazis. The movie opened my eyes to the ravages of war when not only loss of life occurs, but also loss of culture and beauty and religious symbols.
