The Upper Room Daily Devotional "Set Free" Monday, 3 March 2014 - Read Philippians 4:6-9

The Upper Room Daily Devotional "Set Free" Monday, 3 March 2014 - Read Philippians 4:6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. 9 The things which you learned, received, heard, and saw in me: do these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus--Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
While we were spring-cleaning our house one year, a small bird mistakenly flew inside the garage. The trapped bird flew in circles and bumped into the walls while trying to find an escape route. After several minutes of anxious struggle, the exhausted creature rested high atop a doorframe. I grabbed a broom and extended the bristles up to where the bird was perched. To my surprise, the bird hopped onto the bristles and hung on while I walked to the outdoors. Immediately after exiting the garage, the bird flew to a nearby tree — free again! Just like the bird, I sometimes find myself struggling intently with an issue or problem. Worry creeps in as I try to find my way back out. Before long, I am tired and exhausted. In these instances, I can remember the words Paul wrote to the church at Philippi quoted above. Instead of being anxious, I can lift my concerns up to God in prayer. Not only does God have the answers but also the peace to set me free.--The Author-Dan Frisbie (Virginia, USA)
Thought for the Day: The peace of God can release us from our anxiety.
Prayer: Source of peace, teach us to seek you always. When we are anxious and exhausted from life’s struggles, show us your love and mercy through personal relationship with you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Prayer focus: Those who are weighed down by worry
