Kansas City, Missouri The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown with Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 30 May 2014

Kansas City, Missouri The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown with Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 30 May 2014
Greetings RezDowntowners,
It’s great to write you so early on a Friday morning. I hope this message finds you well.  With Memorial Day behind us, this weekend marks the beginning of summer.  As a way of marking this occasion we will be starting a new sermon series on W*RK, it’s not just another four-letter word.  For a brief promo video to share, please click here (and be sure to pass it along to your friends and neighbors).
For the next four weeks we’ll be talking about how it is we find life even in the midst of life’s dirtiest jobs.  Work is something that has touched most of us at some point or another. Sometimes we long for it, other times we loathe it.  Sometimes we have to go looking for it, while other times we can’t get away from it.  Work is something that seems to persist.  It’s always with us, so how might we look at the work we do as an opportunity to experience and share the life that really is life.  This is what we’ll be wrestling with for the next four weeks and my hope is that you’ll join us on this journey!
In the meantime, here are some ways to get connected to the life of this church over the next few weeks:
Young and [un]Professional Dinner night out, this Saturday Night.

Wednesday morning Men’s Group is starting! Guess what day it is? Come on, guess what day it is? HUMP DAY!!! Back by popular demand, a new morning men’s group will be ramping up Wednesday mornings from 6:45-7:45 beginning June 4, at 1508 Grand. Set that alarm, drop down and rep out a few pushups, and then kick off your hump day with Rez Downtown men as we discuss everything from Jesus to sports over coffee. No need to RSVP, just show up and enjoy your time with the dudes of Rez Downtown. For questions, contact rdtmensministry@rezdowntown.org.
My Dream to Trample AIDS Join us Wednesday, June 4, 7 pm at 1522 McGee, for this presentation by our Resurrection Downtown member Don Carrel, author of this award-winning book. He will share his amazing story about how less than two percent of those infected with HIV in 1981 are still alive—and why he believes he is blessed to be one of them. Don’s book contains an inspirational message about love, friends, family, despair, death, grief and faith. It’s also a detailed primer on HIV/AIDS prevention and is especially recommended for anyone who is dating, high school age and older. Autographed books will be available for purchase.
Women’s Self Protection Course Join us Saturday, June 14, 10 am – noon, at 1522 McGee, as Jason Cooley, one of the Kansas City police officers who support us each Sunday, teaches us facts about theft prevention, burglary prevention, ID theft prevention and denial prevention. Learn strategies for not living in fear, but simply being aware and alert to our environments. Also learn techniques to protect yourself. Contact Kelly.Sisney@cor.org to register.
New Disciple II Class starting Monday, June 16, at 7 am—that’s AM! This 34-week study proclaims the transforming power of Scripture while teaching Bible study skills that take participants deeper into the Scripture. Disciple understands the growing Christian as being under discipline in community and in ministry to the world. Fee for materials is $41; scholarships available. This class meets in the Loft at 1522 McGee. For questions or to register, contact Katherine Mick at k-mick@hotmail.com.

If you care about the foster care system and have some flexible time on Mondays, this volunteer opportunity is for you! If interested, contact Pastor Todd at 816-389-8902 or todd.maberry@cor.org for more details.
VBC Volunteers – We are still in need of a few volunteers for Vacation Bible Camp June 16-19. Classes needing small group leaders are Nursery, 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds and Grade 2. Please contact Kris.Drummond@cor.org
