Blue Springs, Missouri - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs with enote from Pastor Penny Ellwood for Friday, 30 May 2014
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
I think that this is the last week of school for most everyone now, so summer has officially begun!!   We have been working on finalizing our summer plans this week and have fun activities and opportunities to grow in your faith and serve others planned throughout the summer season.  I have information about some of these listed below.
I want to make sure that all our families are aware that we have made a change in the timing on Vacation Bible Camp.  As our KiDS COR team began polling parents we discovered that many had conflicts with the morning timeframe we had planned.  Thanks to the flexibility of our team and their desire to provide a great week of learning and fun for the greatest number of kids, we have decided to move VBC to the evening hours and added a meal for the convenience of parents.  VBC will still take place the same week, July 7-11 but will now be held from 5:30 - 8:30 pm.  We're also going to end the week with a big blow out celebration of fun for the whole church with food, blow ups, the famously popular shaving cream war and lots of other activities. So make sure you've got the kids signed up and the dates blocked out on your calendars.
This week of VBC requires a great number of extra hands so if you'd like to help that would be awesome.  You don't need to have a child participating to be a volunteer, but if you do, you'll get a discount on your child's registration and receive a free t-shirt.  Also your early childhood aged children will be able to attend as a volunteer.   Here's a list of some of the needed roles.  We'll provide the material and training:
Small Group Leaders for each grade level Meal AssistantsCraft Assistants
Recreation LeadersActors/Actresses for Large GroupTeens to lead Music & Motions
Missions Leader Check in/out assistants Set Up/Clean Up assistants
Tech Arts HelpDecorations and Stage Set Up

Contact Diane Enlow our Children's Director if you'd be willing to join the volunteer crew. It's a rewarding week to be a part of.
I might also mention. with the summer we have a lot of folks in and out on vacation so we're finding we have some holes in our hospitality line up.  If you'd be willing to volunteer as an usher, greeter, coffee host or communion server this summer or if you would be willing to place your name on a substitute list we would be grateful.  We'll provide whatever training you need.  We want to be able to provide great hospitality all summer long as we've got a great line up for worship. Contact Jennifer Palmer if you'd be willing to serve.
I'm really excited for the new sermon series beginning this Sunday. The first four weeks of June, we'll be preaching live in Blue Springs with a new sermon series entitled: W*RK: Not Just Another 4-Letter Word.  We're going to explore how we are to understand and pursue the work we do and how it fits into God's plan for our lives.  This Sunday's sermon is "In the Beginning, There Was Work."  I hope you'll invite a friend to join you.
