Olathe, Kansas The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West with Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 30 May 2014
Resurrection West,
Summer is here! The fountains are on, the pools are open, and schools are out! We have many great activities planned for the summer and I want to encourage you not to take time off in your faith journey. Make Resurrection West your destination this summer. Check out all the summer events here at rezwest.org/destination.
If you were out of town for the Memorial Holliday, don't miss Tyler Jenkins message from Sunday. You can view it online at rezwest.org. You might also be ready to step up your personal devotional life with our daily GPS (Grow, Pray, Study guide). Each morning I begin my day reading the Scriptures and insights offered from staff and lay leaders across our campuses. Shawn Simpson, our director of technical arts and operations, offered a great daily insight last Thursday - a postscript to Tyler's message from Sunday. Check it out here at gpsinsights.cor.org
This Sunday I am excited to begin a new series entitled W*RK - It's Not Just Another Four Letter Word. One of my favorite authors Tim Keller writes, "A job is a vocation only if someone else calls you to it and you do it for them rather than for yourself.  Thinking of work as a means of self-fulfillment or self-realization slowly crushes the person and undermines society itself." Often times we find ourselves looking for work, working tirelessly, or maybe even coasting at work, wondering "There has to be more to life than this?" We will explore how we approach work, where do we connect Sunday faith to Monday work, and how do we move from success to significance in our work, all of our work? I hope you will be present in worship over the next four weeks. This will be a great series to invite someone who wonders where faith in God connects to the meaning of his or her work. Share, email, post on your facebook, or tweet the promotional video found by clicking here.
There are many great opportunities for ministry coming up. Take a look down the menu and get connected!

Honduras School Supply Drive Resurrection West is sending a team of 12 adults to Honduras in a few weeks to work with the Methodist church in Ciudad Espana and with the school that is housed within. In preparation for the trip, we are gathering school supplies that the team will take to the school children on our behalf. The drive is from Sunday, June 1, through Sunday, June 8. Please place your donations in the bin in the entryway. Thanks in advance for helping give the joy of learning to countless Honduran children. Here is the list of requested supplies: watercolor paints, acrylic paints, crayons, modeling clay, pencils, colorful markers, construction paper, notebooks, permanent markers, pencil sharpeners and coloring books.
Vacation Bible Camp Update - June 16-20 We need elementary-age kids to participate in the evening Vacation Bible Camp! If you haven't yet registered your child to attend VBC, please consider participating in the evening session (Mon. - Thurs., 6-8:30pm). It's the same great program - we just need more kids! Sign up your kids TODAY in the children's area on the lower level or at rezwest.org/vbc.
All VBC kids & families and all others are also invited to attend the Family Fun Night on Friday, June 20, at 6pm to celebrate a successful, faith-filled week of VBC with bounce houses, water inflatables, games, food trucks and fun! There will be no day or evening session on this date, just attend the Family Fun Night!
Ushers Needed for Sunday Morning Worship - especially at the 10:45 am service. Ushering is a great place to serve and tons of fun. Consider serving with a friend, or even as a family! If you would be willing to serve on a rotation once a month, contact QJ and Ann Henderson at qjh@swbell.net for more information.
Sunday Worship Service Greeters - Three different types of greeters are needed for each service. Front Door Greeters are our first point of contact for people as they come to church. Bulletin Greeters pass out bulletins each Sunday and children's ministry packets for family worship weekends. Family Greeters help first-time families check in their children downstairs. Contact David.Robertson@rezwest.org to volunteer or for more information.
Congratulations to Rev. Jacob Cloud on his new appointment to serve as the campus pastor for the University of Kansas and to plant a new Church in Lawrence. If you know of anyone in Lawrence who does not have a church home, please personally invite them to Pastor Jacob's new church. Connect with him by email at pastorjacob13@gmail.com or by phone or text at 785-979-8908.

Join Pastor Jason this Summer for "Gifts, Passions & Sharing" - On three consecutive Tuesday evenings (July 1, 8, 15) from 7-8:30, Pastor Jason Gant will be leading a learning event to help you discover your individual spiritual gifts, your personal passions and your style of sharing faith within your community. Each gathering will be a stand-alone exploration - come to one, two or all three gatherings. The format will be large group teaching by Pastor Jason, followed by small group break-out and discussion. Childcare is available. Visit rezwest.org/GiftsPassionsSharing for registration.
Finally, I completed the Amy Thompson 5K last Monday and this has caused me to go a little nuts and register for the first annual Cedar Creek triathlon on Sept. 7th. I'm not alone in my madness - Nathan Brooks, our worship leader, has also signed up. You can find out more here cedarcreektriathlon.com. Chris Monson has been our staff contact with the planning team around the triathlon. She can be reached at chris.monson@rezwest.org The bike and the run portion of the race will come by each side of our campus and somewhere in the crowd you will see me trying to keep up with Nathan "Mr. Cross-fit" Brooks! Come on and let's represent Resurrection West in our own neighborhood race!
Looking forward to worshipping you on Sunday,
Pastor Jason
