Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Wednesday, 4 June 2014 "Turn, Turn, Turn"
It was Pete Seeger who put the words of Ecclesiastes 3 to music, and it was the Byrds who made the song famous. Here's how chap 3 begins; you'll remember it:
There is a time for everything , and a season for every activity under heaven (3:1)
And on the song goes. It was one of my Mom's favorite passages, as it is for many of us. Why?I think because it points to the truth of the importance of having and keeping perspective. And while it may be important to "live in the moment," it's also important not to get "caught" by the moment. Step back, take a deep breath, gain
perspective.
There is a rhythm to life. One of the reasons we at Trinity - as do many churches - follow the Church year with its liturgical seasons is that it keeps this rhythmic nature in front of us, and invites us to live into it, and be shaped by it, and this: to remember that all time is God's time.
So, join in with 'ol Pete Seeger and sing the song of Scripture and trust time into the hands of God.
