Greetings RezDowntowners,
After Leadership Institute and a great weekend in worship, I had a chance to take the Resurrection Downtown Staff Team to the Lake in order to spend some time together reflecting over this past year, but also dreaming about the future of our church community and what God might be calling for us to do. We talked about the next five weeks, the next five months and we even talked about what God might do in downtown Kansas City over these next five years. It was fun to dream with this great group of people and spending time with our staff reminded me of something I already knew, namely, that we have a great team of committed staff members. I am thankful for each of them and for the way God is using them to change the world through this church. In the same way, we were celebrating the way that God has been using this community, or better stated, all of you! Without committed volunteers and a collection of people who are willing to serve and invite people along on this journey of knowing, loving and serving God we wouldn’t be where we are today. I am thankful for the way that you are living into our purpose of building Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians. Thank you for the ways in which you are changing the world by responding to God’s call to transform this city.
This weekend, I am excited to invite you back to worship as we pick back up with our sermon series on the life and mission of the Apostle Paul. We’ll be talking about the original church planter and the ways he responded to God’s call by sharing the Gospel everywhere he went. I want to invite you to join us. It will be a weekend filled with baptisms, spirit-filled worship and Holy Communion. Please invite friends and join us. Also, as we continue growing and expanding we are continuing to ask people who worship at our 9 and 10:45 worship services, to consider worshipping at our 10:15 Grand worship service or either Saturday or Sunday evening.
In the meantime, here are several ways to get connected to the life of this church community:

YUP’s Study: When Christians Get It Wrong: Kicking off October 8th. Join other Young and UnProfessionals onWednesdays for a 6-week study starting Oct 8, at 7 pm at 1522 McGee. When young adults talk about the problems they have with Christianity and the church, they often name certain attitudes and behaviors they believe are practiced too often by Christians: judging others, condemning people of other faiths, rejecting science, injecting politics into faith, and being anti-homosexual. In this study by our Senior Pastor Adam Hamilton, we will tackle these issues and address the how’s and why’s of Christians getting it right when it comes to being Christ-like in the world. The YUP’s are looking to build a community among young adults 19-35ish. No registration required! For questions, contact Jackie.Thomas@cor.org.
Men’s Breakfast Group ... Don’t Miss It – Bring a friend and join other men Wednesday, Oct. 8th at 7am at 1508 Grand, to hear Lieutenant Colonel John E. Elrich. John currently serves as the instructor of the Command and General Staff Officer Course in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He will explore the importance of mentorship (which applies to our worship study on the Apostle Paul) and discuss the Army’s emphasis on developing leaders. Women’s Breakfast Series – Women are invited to join us Saturday, Oct. 11th at 9am at 1522 McGee and hear from Beth Nybeck, metal sculpture artist and member of Resurrection Downtown. Beth lives and works in the Crossroads Arts District. Her commissions can be found in parks and airports and on college campuses across the country. KiDS COR has been collecting these jars at Connection Point and upstairs in KiDS COR for the backpack program at Wendell Phillips. Our goal is to collect 300 plastic jars for these students. Any questions, contact Kris.Drummond@cor.org.
I am so blessed to be a part of this community and I am so proud to serve Christ with you in this city. As I type, I am looking at pictures from some of our earliest days in this city and reflecting on over how much God has done in the past four and a half years and I'm getting so excited about where God will take us into the future...but in the meantime, I'm excited simply to be worshiping with you this weekend. I hope you'll invite friends and join us as we continue building Christian community in the center of this city. Have a great Friday and I'll look forward to seeing you live and in person this weekend!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
